Protestors in Michigan planning to rally at the state Capitol on Thursday are being warned that if they bring firearms to the event they will be arrested.
The warnings come after several members of the groups planning on attending the rally called for the assassination of Governor Gretchen Whitmer which saw one man writing: Can we please just take up a collection for an assassin to put that woman from Michigan down.
On Monday, Whitmer said she respected peoples rights to protest but was becoming increasingly concerned about the violent nature of the comments being made and the extreme rhetoric already connected to Thursdays rally.
She has requested that if people decide to protest that they wear masks and practice social distancing.
On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey said that despite a longstanding rule that Michiganders with permits can bring weapons into the Capitol, anyone brandishing them in such a way as to intimidate or threaten anyone else should be properly handcuffed, properly taken in and fingerprinted.
Law enforcement needs to take this upon their own hands, Shirkey said. When those brandishing activities occur, they need to be addressed and Im calling on the attorney general and the governor to do so with the cooperation of the Michigan State Police.
There have also been suggestions that Michigan State Police will back up the governors orders on social distancing and could hand out legal citations to those breaking guidelines.

Oh no! Not the death threat meme again.
Michigan “official” doesn’t know the laws of the state he supposedly serves.
Fake death threats...
So predictable

You misspelled "Michigan offal" or "Michigan offeces". ;-)
Gestapo
“Brandishing” has particular legal meaning.
Holstered/slung/shouldered is not “brandishing”.
“Brandishing” without due cause is, of itself, cause for arrest.
False arrests: More lawsuits.
It is utterly amazing how cheap government officials consider the citizens rights to be.
(A)nyone brandishing them in such a way as to intimidate or threaten anyone else should be properly handcuffed, properly taken in and fingerprinted.Shirkeys language is not very clear. It seems to leave things open to subjective interpretation by saying in such a way as to intimidate, stepping outside what the legal meaning would stipulate for the word brandish.
they could try that.
The Great Unwashed need to have their place in society impressed upon them. By force if necessary.
The ironic thing is that people are 100’s of thousands of times more likely to be injured or worse in traffic accidents or road rage incidents getting to and from these rallies then they are facing the business end of a firearm.
anyone can claim intimidation just seeing something even though its legal to display or be seen with said something
I think its time to drop party labels, and refer to those either on the side of the State, and those on the side of the People.
That is what it is coming to.
if a person is wearing a maga hat they are intimidating.../s
That’s just too bad.
“The warnings come after several members of the groups planning on attending the rally called for the assassination of Governor Gretchen Whitmer”
Oh, is THAT what they call a Reichstag fire these days?
How can they tell the difference between brandishing and just carrying?
