Pelosi pushes for next coronavirus relief package as McConnell urges a "pause"

Washington -- As the coronavirus pandemic leaves thousands of Americans dead and roils the economy, Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is urging Congress to move on the next phase of coronavirus relief legislation. In an interview with MSNBC on Monday evening, Pelosi said there is a "monumental" need for the next legislative package, with a focus on helping struggling Americans and cash-strapped states and localities.

"We have a big need. It's monumental. And therefore, it's a great opportunity to say: let's work together to get this done. There's a way to open the economy based on science, testing, testing, testing and let's get on with it. That's what we're here to do," Pelosi told anchor Chris Hayes.

Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has suggested it is unnecessary to immediately begin work on a new aid package. He said during an appearance at a livestream event for the Trump campaign that he intends to "hit pause" on coronavirus relief funds.

"To those who would suggest a pause, I'll say the hunger doesn't take a pause. The rent doesn't take a pause. The hardship doesn't take a pause," Pelosi told Hayes.

"To those who would suggest a pause, I'll say … The rent doesn't take a pause.

There's a Democrat in New York who wants all rent to be free until, well, until all landlords are ruined totally.

Not if you’re over 65 or have an underlying issue. Tons where my wife works, (went back 3 weeks ago), are still drawing the $600. The program is supposed to work as you say, but there are ways around it. Fake medical prognosis’ too.

No more spending. This wound can heal itself without Congress scrubbing it every couple of weeks with 40 grit sandpaper.

My daughter got cut back one day a week at the hospital where she works. Says the salaried employees are given a week off each month and qualify for unemployment, the hourly employees lose 1 day a week and don’t qualify.

That’s a fair point, but a tiny fraction of the total affected workforce.

Her salary is couch money. In fact, it probably does go strictly for ice cream. She’s worth 120 million.

Your daughter I’m guessing, doesn’t receive the +600 federal allowance in addition to UE. Just a gut feeling, but it doesn’t sound like a nice place to work for the hourly employees.
