Let’s be brutally honest here. One of the things I always liked about Trump was that I wanted him to run his administration like he was a professional wrestling promoter. You’re seeing a huge downside to this.

Pure BS. He knew what he was going to do before he accepted the job and stabbed the President in the back and greviously harmed the country. He refuses to just go away so he should spend his last days in disgrace.

You don't take a sitting Senator whose chances for re-election are excellent and appoint him to anything.

The President learned a lesson on this appointment.

To give him credit, this was at a time when better candidates were being actively discouraged, even threatened, from taking a job with the Trump admin.

That’s why folks like Carter Page and George P. were ever able to get anywhere close to Trump. The “A-list” candidates were afraid of being blackballed by DC society for life.

If Donald Trump finally follows through on his rage and fires Jeff Sessions, the image with this story will be printed in history books.

Tonight at 7:35pm, the Attorney General strode into a high-end Washington restaurant to dine with his deputy Rod Rosenstein and the Solicitor General Noel Francisco. Sessions at dinner

The symbolism was unmistakable: the three top ranking officials in the Justice Department appearing together in a show of solidarity on the same day Trump is publicly and privately raging about Sessions.

When Trump sees this photo he'll have to absorb a concept that some of his aides have been trying to impress upon him for nearly a year, since he first began telling them he wanted to get rid of Sessions.

The concept: Fire Sessions, then what next? Are you going to fire Rosenstein too? And then what after that?

Sources close to the situation say today feels different than Trump's usual rages. Sessions' allies are deeply concerned and Trump is totally fed up with his AG.

Trump has been taunting and publicly humiliating Sessions for months now, but his tweet this morning was as rough as any he's sent:

"Why is A.G. Jeff Sessions asking the Inspector General to investigate potentially massive FISA abuse. Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc. Isn’t the I.G. an Obama guy? Why not use Justice Department lawyers? DISGRACEFUL!"

A source close to Sessions, who has spoken with him, says that this meeting was "in no way planned as pushback or an act of solidarity against the president." The source said Solicitor General Noel Francisco requested the meeting some time ago to talk about carrying out various aspects of the department's and administration's agenda.

Also, Sessions is still very much in favor of expanding civil forfeiture as much as possible, and instead of shutting down Russiagate, ended up concentrating on that and increasing marijuana enforcement like they were the two most important things he could do as AG.

As a reminder, “civil forfeiture” is really “the police take your stuff without a warrant, claim they suspect you for a crime that they don’t have to actually charge you with, sell or use the stuff for their own ends and if you ever get it back it will be years and thousands of dollars in legal fees and court costs before that could ever happen - and if you win, the property will have either been destroyed or have mysteriously disappeared.”

If you think the expansion of civil forfeiture is a good idea, you’re an idiot and you need to go live on DU.

Keep in mind that Trump ran as a political outsider with no prior experience in public office. So it’s not like he had an inner circle of people who were well suited to take on these critical roles.

Even with everything we now know, I’m OK with the appointment of Sessions to the AG post ... because I thought the alternatives under consideration at the time would have been a hell of a lot worse. I honestly think Trump would have had some jackass like Michael Cohen under serious consideration.

He should have submitted his resignation. If he was an honorable man he would have removed himself from the DOJ entirely.

Link to the actual letter in the Montgomery Avertiser, a Gannet Newspaper, so link only, no text, as per FR policy:
A letter from Jeff Sessions on his record, Donald Trump and Russian investigation recusal.

Having a excuse, and having a valid, legitimate reason to recuse are not the same.

You sure don't have a good memory! NO REPUBLICANS wanted to have anything to do with TRUMP because they were all for HILLIARY!

Trump didn't have many people that wanted to join him, and the ones that he did have were TRAITORS!

Kind of a joke....He was in the same room with a Russian and it wasn’t on his paperwork. The Dems did the same thing to Sessions as they did to Flynn....made mountains out of mole hills.

Lots of poor hiring decisions. You dont pull a sitting Senator when we barely have a majority. Big mistake.
