Senate Fails to Override Trump’s Veto on Iran War Powers Bill.....

The Senate failed Thursday to override President Donald Trump’s veto of a bill that would curb his ability to take military action against Iran.

The Senate came up short of the two-thirds majority, and it voted 49-44, with seven GOP senators joining Democrats.

Seven Republicans broke with Trump: Sens. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine, Mike Lee of Utah, Rand Paul of Kentucky, Todd Young of Indiana, and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana. Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) joined Democrats in February to pass the bill, but he did not vote Thursday.

Trump on Wednesday night, in announcing the veto, said that Republicans who voted alongside Democrats were tricked by them. He also argued that the measure would hamper the executive branch’s ability to protect allies in the Middle East against the Iranian regime.

“The resolution implies that the president’s constitutional authority to use military force is limited to defense of the United States and its forces against imminent attack,” he said in a statement. “That is incorrect. We live in a hostile world of evolving threats, and the Constitution recognizes that the president must be able to anticipate our adversaries’ next moves and take swift and decisive action in response. That’s what I did!”

Rand is acting nutty again.

I expect the other to be acting like liberals, but I’m truly disappointed at what Lamar has become.

Lamar Alexander? I would think he’d be preparing for retirement anyway. He will be 79 y/o this July 3rd.
Go out on the golf course and graze with the other RINOs.

Minutes to respond to an imminent attack, and he needs to consult Congress and the Senate? Screw that. I want our President to be able to respond quickly.

Get those traitorous senators out!

This is why these Trump hating RINOs are just that. They cannot stand the fact that we have a President that can act on his own and does not need these traitors to get the job done. They hate him because time after time, he shows the world how useless they are....

It’s not nutty to stand true to your beliefs, which Rand does nearly every time. Sometimes that puts him in opposition to Trump, but unlike Romney he has long held beliefs and not just personal vindictiveness.

I respect Rand’s stance on things, even when they’re counter to mine, but at its face, the idea of this legislation is correct — presidents have wandered far astray of our constitution when it comes to war powers. It’s why we’re in a constant state of conflict around the world, and it costs our children’s lives for POSs who don’t give a whit about us.

But this particular effort was merely another “get Trump” move. Congress should get back to us when they’re serious about reigning this in...

‘Our children’ are safer in the US military even when it’s in Iraq or Afghanistan than they would be driving the streets in the US during the same time period.

This isn’t WW2 when FDR was throwing them human wave style by the thousands at formidably entrenched Germans and Japanese.... and it’s definitely not the US Civil War.

They certainly don’t think so. They’re all about preventing Trump from doing his Presidential Duties at every turn and overloading this administration with countless opposition tactics....they are operating in a position of a power struggle regardless of the issues....if they can’t have it at the top they will and do use their power to create as much chaos and trip wires wit wat powers they do have.
