Study on genetic mutation suggests COVID-19 could 'weaken'

Researchers have discovered a new coronavirus mutation that mirrors a similar change that occurred to SARS in 2003 according to the New York Post. The research team, led by Dr. Efrem Lim, an assistant professor at Arizona State University’s Biodesign Institute, used a new technology called next generation sequencing to read through all 30,000 chemical letters of the SARS-CoV-2 genetic code (also known as genome).

This technology is helping researchers understand how the virus is evolving, spreading and mutating. Published in the Journal of Virology, the team examined 382 samples of people in the state who had been tested for COVID-19. The study found that one sample was missing a significant portion of its genetic code, having about eighty one of the letters permanently deleted.

Most things usually weaken and lose information over time, which is the opposite of evolution.

You know we still have the Hong Kong flu around, which devastated folks in 1968-69? Yeah, but it's so weak nobody notices it.

The Chicom Cooties will be so irrelevant by Memorial Day...except to the flagburning gungrabbing babykilling Proggies.

Which make evolution even more unlikely.

“Study on genetic mutation suggests COVID-19 could ‘weaken’ “

************************************************************

Obviously, this headline has to be wrong. MSM has deemed only news that say the mutations are growing “stronger” be allowed. Got that? G-r-o-w-i-n-g s-t-r-o-n-g-e-r, OK??? Citizens must constantly be hit with devastating news. Do not let up. Trump has to be defeated at all costs, and the best chance for this is a totally destroyed economy. People must believe that the only way to survive will be to shelter-in-place.

“S8uggests”, “could”...
Don’t read too much in these things people.
And media is terrible about reporting scientific info.

If the virus mutated in two ways - one which killed the victim in an hour and another which gave the victim a moderate cough for a couple of weeks, the second would spread the virus more thus be successful. Viruses succeed by reproducing, not by killing.

Evolution refers to the process of change over time. If Covid-19 is changing to become less virulent, then it is evolving to better adapt to its new human host.

Pathogens that cause mild illness are more evolutionarily fit than those that cause severe or fatal illness. The more deadly a pathogen is, the less chance it has to infect new victims.

. Viruses succeed by reproducing, not by killing.

Exactly right. I saw Dementia Joe babbling incoherently the other day about how he and Obama supposedly stopped Ebola in its tracks. Wrong, a--hole. Ebola stopped itself in its tracks. When a disease is that deadly and debilitating, the infected carrier too sick to be out and about spreading it.

Correct. That’s why this is the perfect bioweapon designed to disable and disrupt, but not destroy our society. Very contagious. Transmitted by asymptomatic carriers. Deadly just enough to cause govts to shut down their people to preserve life. Difficult to trace back to being lab developed. A perfect weapon for an economic war.

You mean it’s going to behave like every other airborne virus mankind has ever seen?

Quick, somebody tell Dr. Fauci.

Yes, quite naturally. The Spanish Flu bug, what is now called Influenza A among the seasonal flu viruses is weaker than it was in 1918-1919. Part of it is us, our human response to and attacks on the virus. Part of it is what viruses that survive among us do. If they kill all of us the hosts they need are gone. If we hate them so much we kill them off completely, they lose. But if they are a mild enough irritant to most of us, such that they don’t kill their hosts most of the time, then they survive. Being a weaker irritant to us makes a virus less dangerous to us, and being less dangerous to us helps insure greater survivability of the virus.

Evolution refers to the process of change over time.

I agree with this comment.

There is a difference between change and the acquisition or loss of information. Nowadays people imply that evolution is an improvement or acquisition of new information which is not necessarily the case.

From what I have seen most things do not become something else, they just become different versions of what they already are, and in most cases there is a deterioration or decay of information not an influx of new data.

Adaptation to a dark outside environment, leads to the species becoming darker to survive.

In the case of the virus a weaker virus means that the virus will survive, not that it is a better virus. If it was a better virus it would not only survive but at some point completely take over the host.

For a virus like Covid-19, the best case scenario (from the virus' point of view) is to remain just as contagious, but become less virulent. We are trying to eradicate Covid-19, but if it were only as virulent as ordinary cold viruses, no one would really care about it.

Only retroviruses have successfully "taken over" their host. They are RNA viruses that make a DNA copy of their genome and insert it into the host's chromosomes. About 8% of our human genome is actually retrovirus nucleic acid. Retroviruses are essential for placenta development.

Exactly. Add to that the horrifying “leaked” videos from Wuhan in the beginning, and a total lack of sharing of scientific data from the ChiComs to this day, and you have and even more perfect weapon for economic war.

Why no more “leaked” videos from China now? Would they show a weakened weapon?
