Most things usually weaken and lose information over time, which is the opposite of evolution. If the virus mutated in two ways - one which killed the victim in an hour and another which gave the victim a moderate cough for a couple of weeks, the second would spread the virus more thus be successful. Viruses succeed by reproducing, not by killing.

Exactly right. I saw Dementia Joe babbling incoherently the other day about how he and Obama supposedly stopped Ebola in its tracks. Wrong, a--hole. Ebola stopped itself in its tracks. When a disease is that deadly and debilitating, the infected carrier too sick to be out and about spreading it.
