...This is our window to keep it from establishing, Chris Looney, an entomologist at the Washington State Department of Agriculture, tells the Times. If we cant do it in the next couple of years, it probably cant be done.

My understanding is the problem is what they will do to the bee population.

I am more worried about the Suicide Squirrels. They run into the road right in front of your car trying to achieve their evil intent. Then you swerve trying to miss them and...POW right into a bridge embankment! The suicide is not theirs.

This is satire, right? Alas, I fear not.It isn't satire but there has been extremely poor reporting on this. The problem with these hornets isn't that they will kill a substantial number of humans. The destroy bees nests to get the wax and feed their own colonies. 10 or 20 hornets can kill off an entire bee colony in a few hours.
I saw on Fox where they claimed that bees are fighting back by generating heat. That was idiotic. When a hornet finds a bees nest it marks it then goes back for help. Some species of Bees have learned to lure that scout into the nest then smother it with bodies so it can't back out and can't kill them. They keep it smothered until their body heat kills it. Most colonies in America will not have this defense.
Our bee colonies have been distressed for several years now. These hornets just make things worse.

DDT will become our new best friend until we find a predator for those Murder-Hornets.
Hmmm....Don’t Pythons and Gators like freshly caught Hornets?
Maybe Florida can sell some to us in California.

Our bee colonies have been distressed for several years now. These hornets just make things worse. Obviously the solution is for the bees to lock down for a year, cease producing honey and stop pollinating plants. Only then will they be safe.

Fox News just reported that Japanese honeybees have learned how to kill murder hornets by surrounding them and "cooking" them to death.

Japanese honey bees have evolved the ability to "ball" around giant hornets and warm them up to about 117 degrees F, which kills the hornet. (Yes, you won't have to worry about these critters in the Southwest.)
Honeybees in the US are almost entirely descended from Italian honeybees, and they will be a smorgasbord for the hornets.
