Most of us have been in lockdown for about six weeks. The objective was to flatten the curve and reduce the total number of victims of COVID-19. Well, the curve has been flattened indeed, but how is it six-weeks later there are 25,375 new cases in a single day?
With all the laws and policies implemented to knock out this virus, I expected wed be on the last leg of the downward curve by now. But, instead of a peak and decline, weve had three peaks and shallow valleys between them.
If people are staying at home, practicing social distancing, wearing masks in public, washing their hands and sanitizing everything in sight, how is it that COVID-19 continues to be transmitted from person to person?
A couple possibilities that occurred to me are that: 1) People flouting the laws, or 2) The virus is phenomenally virulent beyond anything ever seen before ( bio-weapon).
I was fully on board with the lockdown orders when they were issued. It was what we needed to do to beat this. However, we are at the point that the cure is becoming worse than the disease. In addition to what this virus has done to people directly, what about the collateral damage, such as long-term damage to our economy? For instance, consider the first two trillion dollar bail-out. Who pays for it? If you are among the approximate one-hundred-million US tax payers, you do. The federal government just signed your name to a $20,000 loan. Dont think so? Do the math.
It would be particularly interesting to hear the stories of COVID-19 cases that youve heard of in the last couple weeks and theories of how they were exposed.
Should we just let this thing take an inevitable course, or should we double-down on lock-down?
Stay at home, curl in a ball, and suck your thumb. The rest of us are going to work.
Yes, “cooking the books” to keep us separated and the economy down. Using Democrat vote counting methods for this stinking virus.
Best post ever of this so called pandemic.
Well said.
Nothing more, nothings less.
Mine has F.U. WUHAN in bold Sharpie
Unless I wear my Gadsden flag bandanna.
Either way I hope to stain your shorts, Karen!
Unfortunately, you’re correct.
Shove it, Fearper! Anyone who wants to prevent can do so, but you have no authority over me.
The virus is everywhere and its effectively no worse than a bad flu.
Live with it. Die with it. I dont care.
Very good and very true!
Absolutely correct, “Mom MD” is a troll. No healthcare professional would make the outrageous comments it is making.
It is important to note that the fatalities curve does not behave quite this way. The total area under the fatalities’ curve is much higher if the health care system capacity is seriously exceeded.
What other source has THAT? Everything I'm seeing is just under 70k.
Over 130k fatalities by Aug. 4 is not unreasonable, however.
Nice chart.
+1
By some "metrics" I may even be more "at risk" than you.
Nevertheless, I stand (however briefly, and I don't really give a ..... (you fill in the blanks) with Patrick Henry:
"Give me liberty or give me death!
Those working to enhance the virus in the Wuhan Institute of Virology did their job well. We are fighting an organism that can only be seen with a transmission electron microscope. They have created a highly contagious virus that has enhanced abilities to quickly replicate itself in the avioli cells of the lungs. The victim is virtually killed by their own immune system as it reacts to the rapid spread of the virus into the cells. Thanks to the study of the AIDs virus, we have learned tremendous knowledge about the mechanism of the virus. After we put this one in its grave, we will be better prepared for the next one.
Yes, and the world must take action against China for what it did.
My frontline/RN (BSN)daughter, who works in a major hospital in Philly, HUP, says it’s all bullshit. And she comes home every night after work, and none of us in this house have it, and we hug and kiss and haven’t changed a thing. Yes, she works with Covid patients as well as other ICU patients and C-T patients.
She says we shouldn’t wear masks or especially gloves (cross contamination) and will never believe anything the CDC says for medical protocol ever again.
Major hospitals in philly and across the country have been empty for 7 weeks, doctors, nurses, techs, laid off. Those like my daughter forced to take time off (only for 2 days for her, thankfully).
15 days to slow the spread to save our hospitals. Then another 30. Now, it’s 5 days past the 45 days and still empty hospitals. But we have police states in many of our states and small businesses decimated. Private companies decimated.
Maybe you and people like you should care about all those laid off healthcare workers, all those millions of other unemployed now by this irresponsible behavior by our government and millions of citizens like yourself.
Well put. I would say that we have bought time to innovate strategies on how to function in the productive sector without spreading the virus. Whether we make use of that time for innovation is another matter.
Yep and the “disease” is the country becoming communist.
OMG I never thought a place like FR would so willingly give up liberty.
I live in NJ. Draconian rules being enforced as if they were laws.
Who the hell wants to live like this other than old or ill people who are miserable anyway or liberals/communists trying to take down a duly elected President?
