Hi Kathy!

I am enjoying full retirement but I'm really going to enjoy going with son to our gun range Wednesday since they've finally opened back up!

Boy works until 2:30 but we will still get out there.

Glad all your snow is about gone!

Howdy, LUV.

Had to turn the computer off right after I posted because storms hit with a lotta lightnin’. Still raining hard and very windy but the lightning’s moved on. This is getting old.

Are they still saying you’ll have cooler temps tomorrow?

Strength for the Journey

Bible in a Year:

All at once an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.”

 1 Kings 19:5

One summer, I faced what seemed an impossible task—a big writing project with a looming deadline. Having spent day after day on my own, endeavoring to get the words onto the page, I felt exhausted and discouraged, and I wanted to give up. A wise friend asked me, “When’s the last time you felt refreshed? Maybe you need to allow yourself to rest and to enjoy a good meal.”

I knew immediately that she was right. Her advice made me think of Elijah and the terrifying message he received from Jezebel (1 Kings 19:2)—although, of course, my writing project wasn’t anywhere near the cosmic scale of the prophet’s experience. After Elijah triumphed over the false prophets on Mount Carmel, Jezebel sent word that she would capture and kill him, and he despaired, longing to die. But then he enjoyed a good sleep and was twice visited by an angel who gave him food to eat. After God renewed his physical strength, he was able to continue with his journey.

When the “journey is too much” for us (v. 7), we might need to rest and enjoy a healthy and satisfying meal. For when we are exhausted or hungry, we can easily succumb to disappointment or fear. But when God meets our physical needs through His resources, as much as possible in this fallen world, we can take the next step in serving Him.

Reflect & Pray

Looking back, when have you needed to slow down and receive sustenance before pressing on? How can you look for signs of burnout as you serve God?

Creator God, You formed us as Your people. Thank You for our limitations, which remind us that You’re God and we’re not. Help us to serve You with gladness and joy.

Yes, they are. It’s supposed to get really windy and the temps drop overnight. I say..bring it! It was 101 again today.

Sorry you have violent storms. Was the lightning worth getting any pictures? You guys are going to just float away if this keeps up. LOL!

Yay! Everyone there will be glad for the break in the heat. Too bad you can't get a little rain with it too.

This batch of storms followed the same track as those that came through yesterday but the wind wasn't quite as strong. They said some of the storms had 60 mph winds but yesterday it was 80 mph. We got a lot more rain and lightning here tonight than we did yesterday though. 2.3 inches in the gauge when I looked. Only got .1 yesterday.

I got one decent lightning bolt on the camera and it hit right across the road from us. Not sure what it hit because a magnolia tree blocked that part of the view.

Gorgeous! You did good. Darn tree. But I do love magnolia trees. They don’t grow here. Oh, I did see one here in town somewhere, but it was pretty stunted. LOL! And over 2 inches more rain. I hope you aren’t waterlogged again.

We are happy it’ll be cooler. It’s 79 right now and shouldn’t be much more than that tomorrow as a high.

Had I stepped out on the front porch about 30 seconds sooner, I’d have had the camera going and would have caught two bolts at once in the same spot. They zipped down just as I stepped out. Darn the luck!

Hubby planted two magnolias in the front yard right before I moved here 21 years ago and they were pretty small. They aren’t huge even now because they grow so slowly. The one in the pic is about 20 feet from the porch and does block the view a bit. grrrrr!

I guess since the rain’s stopped I should grab the flashlight and do a quick walk-around to check for limbs down. The wind got pretty wild for a bit. Gonna be a squishy walk.

Wow, if you do get 79 for a high tomorrow, that’s going to feel great! If the wind is blowing and kicking up dust, you’ll be able to enjoy sitting outside for a bit.
And the kitties won’t have to hide in the shade all day long.

I know the kitties will be very relieved to be able to be comfortable. I’ve made sure they have plenty of water and that it’s in the shade so it won’t be hot water. Poor babies.

The shot you got was great. I love how it turns the sky stormy purple. Hope there aren’t any downed limbs out there. More to have to. clean up but they’d make a nice fire when they dry out. :)

A very pleasant good Tuesday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country and thanks Lauren for this morning's thread.

Thankfully we missed the storms yesterday. They were all over in Eastern OK.

How's everyone doing this morning? Here are some pics from our trip to Comanche Lake this morning?

Yeah, not been fun for the kitties being holed up all the time. They’d rather wander around to keep tabs on their territories. :-)

There was some lightning in the distance and the bolts turned the sky red when they zapped. They were too distant to make good pix though.
There was a lot of lightning overhead but it stayed up in the clouds - - except for the two times bolts shot down across the road. I’m still sick about missing the twin bolts. That was really pretty.

Nothing large down tonight. Just some more small stuff and more maple leaves blown out of the trees. It’s really soupy out there as I expected.

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

You sure did get lucky missing out on the storms. I saw that it was ugly in east OK on the radar. That mess ended up here just before 9 p.m. and it was pretty wild for a while.

Which chicken dinner did you save for later eating - - what you cooked or what you finally managed to score from KFC? :-)

Well, we finished up the KFC supper yesterday. Today we’re going to start on the chicken I fixed yesterday.

Glad there was just small stuff down. That must have quite a blow. I’m sure our windy weather will be starting up any time. It’s down to 72 and that’s much more pleasant!

See ya tomorrow!
