As Covid-19 takes hold across the globe, and global demand for air travel falls 80 percent, the aviation industry is in freefall. The International Air Transport Association predicts half of all airlines will be bankrupt by June if governments don't step in with loans and bailouts. Climate campaigners, however, believe the pause in flying is an opportunity to build a cleaner air transport system.
Magdalena Heuwieser is a climate activist and co-founder of the Stay Grounded Network. The group's current campaign #SavePeopleNotPlanes asks that any financial aid come with conditions.
Heuwieser told FRANCE 24: "Airlines must agree to finally pay their fair share of taxes. Right now, airlines don't pay fuel tax and there is no VAT on plane tickets. We also demand to stop air miles programmes which incentivise frequent flying."
There is some hope the Covid-19 outbreak could lead to long-term changes in flying behaviour. With business trips cancelled, people are learning to communicate using video conference technology, raising the question of whether staff need to fly as frequently in the future.

Joseph Goebbels was a German Nazi politician and Reich Minister of Propaganda of Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945.
Would that be like.....a REAL quid pro quo??

So kiss French airlines and flights in and to France goodbye.
No big deal, I never wanted to visit that muzzie hellhole anyway.
I agree, the climate morons will get nothing out of this.
Let the Lefty loony’s wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which fills up first.
So who would get the tax revenue and what would it be used for? Hmmm, let me guess.
Huh?
If one prefers to walk, this should be done.
“Should airline bailouts come with climate conditions?”
Only if they can make it warmer.
To these commies the dark part of the cloud is their silver lining.
10 years ago, maybe. But programs have been watered down. What they do is incentivize loyalty. And not as well as they did years ago either.
They do not want to build a cleaner system. They want to impose a tax.
The airlines and aircraft manufacturers have been working very hard to increase fuel efficiency. They do this to save money. There is nothing a climate activist can tell them about making aircraft more efficient.
It is the desire for fuel efficiency over other considerations that lead to the 737-MAX debacle. These idiots are advocating more of the same.
Yes. They should. The climate in the planes that have to sit on the runway cannot be under 60F or over 75F. You know. Comfortable. Also more leg room and more elbow room. Take out rows.
“Huh?”
I consider TP a multi-use item. Of course for the primary purpose...but other uses...blowing my nose, absorbing a floor spill quickly, wiping my mouth after brushing my teeth if there’s no towel available. Heck, I’ve used it with Brasso to shine up brass. The TP is always new and fresh of the roll.
One thing I’ve never done, or never will...re-use TP.
Should congressional salaries come with a condition of a psychological evaluation...?
Or stay at home orders and mandatory vaccines?
Does she use the bus and train? or peddle her arse from gig to gig?
Climate justice activist?? Another tax (control u peon) scheme.
I pay fuel tax when I roll out my puddle jumper out of the hangar. Avgas is presently 5 a gallon. Woman is a lyin wench.
Hah! She sold me on Cheeky Wipes (cute, sweet person...and the accent had something to do with it!). I checked Amazon, but didn’t see that brand...there were some runner ups. I’ll look again as we are new grandparents and those wipes look quite handy.
I found it on the UK Amazon.
That crap is expensive. Can’t ship them to the US right now due to the demand over there. Bummer.
