Embattled Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer picked an odd time to attack the states DeVos family, a founder of the giant Amway health, beauty, and home care firm that has been loading up the state with the personal protective equipment sought in the coronavirus crisis.
Whitmer, facing a recall movement after extending the states virus lockdown, lashed out at the DeVos family Monday, claiming that they are behind an upcoming protest from conservatives in the state.
Then today, after the family rejected the attack, she tried to play nice and issued a statement praising their firm, founded by Jay Van Andel and Rich DeVos. His son Dick, whose wife is Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, is Amway's former president and is now on the board.
On Monday, at a press conference to give an update on the virus, she slapped at the planned Wednesday protest in Lansing by the Michigan Conservatve Coalition, claiming it was funded by the DeVos-backed Michigan Freedom Fund.
I also would just say, I think it is this group is funded in large part by the DeVos family and I think its really inappropriate for a sitting member of the United States presidents cabinet to be waging political tax on any governor, but obviously on me here at home. I think that they should disavow it and encourage people to stay home and be safe, she said without giving any evidence linking Betsy DeVos to the group.
No apology? We all err, it's a simple test of integrity... https://t.co/OR1QXUmgs5
Greg McNeilly (@gregmcneilly) April 14, 2020 But Freedom Fund executive director Tony Daunt rejected the claim.
He told local Fox 17 that his group put a whopping $250 in a Facebook ad to promote the protest. And for some reason the governor decided today to make this wild claim that the DeVos family was funding this rally and I think the Conservative Coalition and the thousands of people who have signed on to that group are offended by that. And as they should be, he said.
The whiplash today: Whitmer issued a statement of praise for Amways help in stocking up the states medical facilities with masks, gowns and other equipment.
Amway has really stepped up to help keep Kent County families and health care workers safe during this time. Im eager to work with them and every other business that wants to contribute their time and machinery to helping us fight this virus. This is an all hands on deck moment for our state, and we're working with anyone and everyone to get the personal protective equipment our front line health care workers need to stay safe and save lives, she said.
But it came with no apology to the DeVos family.
In reacting to her statement, Amway stayed positive, as always, and said, "As a family-owned company with deep Michigan roots, supporting our community has always been a priority at Amway. We are especially proud of how our employees have come together here and around the world to lend a hand during these challenging times."
Moved on from Kalifornia 20 years ago when it became clear to me it was a lost cause.
Oh, OK.
You just seemed so gleeful at announcing you had escaped a snowstorm to live in... California.
Much as I hate hate hate the weather— it snowed here a bit last night! — I would never make THAT trade, not unless you paid me bigly for life and let me choose what part of the state to live in. (In a camper on the Arizona border, with the “real” house on the other side of the line...)
That year there was a proposal on the ballot to make weed legal. This brought out the young liberal voters. That’s how she won.
I was gleeful at the time!
I grew up on the East Coast and was sick of cold Winters.
Gestapo Gretchen ordered U.S. flags in Michigan to half-staff on the 7th, indefinitely, for Covid-19 victims.
Now Michigan military folks are upset, big time. That is NOT a reason to fly Old Glory half-mast.
So, she’s pissed off yet another demographic in Michigan.
Add this to banning U.S. flag sales, and it’s pretty obvious this woman is a an un-American, power-hungry, tyrannical and socialist gal.
not the coach doing the talking but the assistant water boy pretending to be coach
It must be a curse against anyone who gives the Democrat response to President Trump's State of the Union address.
Joe Kennedy III, Stacey Abrams, Gretchen Whitmer.

“No, this has nothing to do with the “green” agenda. Not at all.”
Oh heck no...
Speaking of green — In MI you can buy pot but not garden seeds.
She seems the perfect VP candidate for Biden...pulease select this nut job, Joe.
LOL...very good!
One of the benefits of a military upbringing followed by a military career was
“if you don’t like the climate, wait a year or three and you’ll be in a different one— conversely, the same applies if you DO like the climate!”
When I left Texas, the longest I’d lived any one place in my life was four years.
She prefer’s “The Soros Way” rather than “The American Way.”
When did Caitlyn Jenner become Gov of Michigan?
Whitmer is such a damn mess.
How in the hell did she ever become Governor?
Because Negros in Wayne county see a “D” and pull the lever. Nuke Detroit Flint and Lansing and the place would be livable.
Freedom Fund executive director Tony Daunt... told local Fox 17 that his group put a whopping $250 in a Facebook ad to promote the protest. And for some reason the governor decided today to make this wild claim that the DeVos family was funding this rally and I think the Conservative Coalition and the thousands of people who have signed on to that group are offended by that. And as they should be, he said.
If Half-Whitmer doesn't resign, she should be removed.
Whitmer = Titantic.
There should be no law suits by government. There should be arrests and prison in a Federal Pen. I suggest GITMO, for HalfWitmere.
That was also the year they had the legalization of marijewana on the ballot. So all the stoners came out to vote.
