On Monday morning I had a delivery to my apartment from the nearby off-licence - or liquor store, as they say over here.
And I put a jokey picture on Twitter of a bottle of gin and eight bottles of tonic, with the caption that at least I had the next week sorted.
After leaving the White House Briefing Room on Monday evening following a marathon two-hour 24-minute press conference, I felt I could have knocked off the whole lot in one sitting.
This has been the most dizzying, jaw-dropping, eyeball-popping, head-spinning news conference I have ever attended. And I was at Bill Clinton's news conference in 1998 when he faced the press for the first time over his relationship with Monica Lewinsky.
I was at this president's first White House gathering when he called me "another beauty". I was in Helsinki when he had his first news conference with Vladimir Putin, and seemed to prefer to believe the Russian leader over his own security and intelligence chiefs on interference in the 2016 election.
What made last night's encounter unique was the context. And secondly, this was, if you like, a distillation - all the talk of gin, I think, forced me to use that word - in one news conference of what three and a half years of Donald Trump has been like to cover.
Donald Trump walked into the briefing room with scores to settle with the media. This wasn't about the dead, the desperately sick, the people fearful of catching the virus. This was about him. And more particularly his profound sense of grievance that the media has been critical of his handling of Covid-19.

In that whole screed, this is one of two or three times the author comes even close to mentioning the video. No mention of the content of the video, no pause to reflect that the way some these media report out of these press briefings leaves a lot to be desired.
What I saw of the author was a small man passed that the President dared to call out the media and the Left in general by throwing their lies back into their faces.
It is hard not to label these people as evil. And I try not to use that word casually. But they really are evil.
No, he said she would be the last person he would tell. It was brutal the beating she took and sat there with her little smirk.
They certainly are shameless. Under any circumstances it would be a stretch, but one might be generous and suggest that journalists were so wrapped up in groupthink that they were truly not aware of how fast and responsive President Trump had been — and how unfairly the media has treated him.
But President Trump just laid it all out. It’s incontrovertible — he had been stellar, and they have been unfair.
And their reaction: “We hate you more now.”
This is actually a brilliant, brilliant psy-op being executed by The Trumpster.
He put Maggie Haberman on the hot seat and now she is having to furiously backpedal under withering Twitter assault from her colleagues.
This is going to inject a level of paranoia into all of them as when they sit down to write something they are going to start second, third and fourth guessing themselves as to how this may come back to bite them in two months. He has sown fear and recriminations of journalists against each other. They are going to approach every word as if some mysterious masked man is stalking them.
It’s like something out of the most brilliant spy novel you’ve ever read.
Trump also denied that Ivanka will be on the reopening task force. That exposed media butt cheeks too. Personally I suspect that was deliberately leaked for this reason and they bought it hook, line and sinker.
The man is brilliant.
Trump’s pimp hand is strong
Is there a link to the video Trump played? (I’m not good at finding that kind of stuff.)
Her name is Reid, she’s CBS. Her husband is directly linked to China.
It’s too bad POTUS Trump didn’t just say, what are you complaining about, “I have a Pen and a Phone” just like the last guy.
The best drug cocktail to beat the Kung Flu is Gin and Tonic.
CNN's chryon was changed 4 times in 5 minutes. HOES MAD!
LOL, the media became angry and Paula Reid had a meltdown as they turned their news into a “campaign style” ad for Biden.
For a second I thought you were wondering if Trump would walk it back . . .
Trump doesn’t walk back - he walks OVER
Eight bottles of Tonic water for one bottle of gin.
He is drinking it for the quinine.
The Wuhan Chinese Corona virus and it's press conferences are the biggest tar baby of all time.
I hope Trump brings that up next time he gets harassed by that arrogant b!tch.
Partisan Media Shills update.
i’ve looked a lot for a video but seems no video exists of this apparent ass chewing.
The media continues to prove they have thinner skins than an overripe grape. It’s all about them. Clearly, the press conference was not about showing the liberal media the error of their ways. Trump admitted that was futile. He was going over their heads to tell the public not to believe the lies about how he wasn’t prepared and didn’t do enough.
These were outright lies that the the Democrat Party is trying to use as a premise for another round of impeachment. If I were Trump, I’d go so far as to say “if you want to bring this country back from this recession, elect Republicans. If you want continued paralyzing impeachment witch hunts and bloated pork budgets that will stifle economic growth, elect Democrats”.
The Beeb reporter wrote a lot about how much his butt hurt. But hardly at all about how it got hurt.
Bought the tonic syrup when this all started.
Can get to 250mg of quinine per G&T with two squirts, which is my daily alcohol limit. Rather bitter.
