On April 11, The Washington Post ran an article about plans being made to reopen the economy. The article complains that state governors (rather than the White House) are leading the planning, which has resulted in a “mind-boggling level of disorganization,” according to a Centers for Disease Control director.
The incessant bleating of prominent health leaders over the lack of federal control in this crisis only underscores how little they understand or respect this country’s Constitution and the freedoms it seeks to protect. Although the White House certainly has emergency authority to mandate all number of efforts to respond to crisis, and obviously can pressure local leaders, the coronavirus has highlighted the structural nature of the Constitution and that one of the saving graces in the insanity we are living through is that lockdowns are local.
Our country’s structure is pretty straightforward on paper, even if things get a little complicated once all the parts start moving in real time. When the states formed the Union, they ceded power to a federal government cautiously, carefully granting to Congress enumerated powers and creating checks and balances to keep the federal government from evolving into tyranny. At least, that was the plan.
The states retained their historic “police power.” The police power is a state’s inherent authority to govern with a view toward its citizens’ health, safety, morals, and general welfare. Certainly, a state’s plenary powers are limited by the U.S. Constitution and state constitutions, but absent those restrictions, a state’s power is very broad.

I went to Tractor Supply for Bird feed, they tell me it's essential.
As I see it, 90% of restaurants will fail. If you are a restaurant owner, you might as well as close and liquidate everything you have. Try to reopen again in 2021 or 2022 if you have the resources.
Same thing happened here in our small mountain town in Colorado.
In this instance one of our local ‘Karens’ called the cops.
My son-in-law has a home remodeling business. He has been shut down by order of our governor, Tommie the Commie Wolf.
My daughter is livid. Why is it too dangerous for her husband to work inside an empty house alone, while it would be perfectly fine for him to take a job at Walmart and be exposed daily to huge crowds of people?
She is a nurse and understands the risks of infectious disease.
The upshot is that we can NOT close Walmart or Kroger because people would starve. And if we have no choice but to let them remain open, then dammit, we may as well let every other public business remain open.
Because herd immunity is coming, whether Dr. Tony likes it or not.

Once the red states and red counties are reopened, Twitter and Facebook will be buzzing with pictures of those citizens enjoying your lives and sending the kids back to school. Then it will be very hard for the blue states and the blue counties not to follow.
In terms of widespread covid testing to find antibodies, it’s perfectly acceptable to take a representative sample in each state and call it a study. That would be reasonably accurate and doable.
Also the feds could turn off the emergency funds tap to the blue states. Money talks.
I am surprised the instant decrease in tax revenues from all sources hasn’t inspired the blue states to open up even now. No one is paying anything.
That’s just it. They have scared the sheeple to the point thu ya could open up tomorrow and half the country would stay home

So after the red states and counties re-open, If the blue areas don’t do likewise just out of citizen envy, then it won’t be long before the wealthier citizens and businesses representing their tax base start to relocate.
On people staying at home, there’s an answer for the economy on the Range. Produce! The Range is loaded with metals and other minerals. De-regulate! There’s plenty of room there for more suburbs. And let the ranchers keep their properties after cattle losses in bad spring weather instead of confiscating everything.
In my view, Comrade Mayor, Comrade Governor, and not even the President of the United States has the legal authority to override the Constitution under any circumstances. They can convince, they can ask, they can plead, and they can beg that certain guidelines be followed, but they don’t have the power to order that the Constitution be ignored. (Note Screen name.)
