There has been speculation for weeks around the possibility that the COVID-19 virus hit the United States, and possibly Wyoming, weeks before previously thought, and many more people already have had it and dont realize it, and those people are now immune. Right now this is just conjecture, but it is worth having the discussion.
Buckrail. posted an article on April 9th about a Jackson doctor who shares this belief and has been fairly outspoken about it. Every community seems to have their own local name for it, and in Jackson they call it "that awful JH crud" that was circulating back in December 2019 and in January. In Pinedale it is often called "the Pinedale crud." It included a terrible cough that just couldnt be shaken and seemed to last for weeks, longer than usual. It was passed off as an upper respiratory infection. There was no test for it then.
Jackson Hole gets many international tourists, including many from China. Yellowstone National Park has three million visitors a year; Grand Teton Park over two million. All the park gateway communities, including Pinedale, see a fraction of those visitors each summer.
The implications, the article says, are crucial. It means this virus may have already started working its way through Wyoming weeks to months earlier than thought and there might already be some herd immunity to it in Wyoming. The answer wont be known until there is a test for antibodies in the blood. So it is still very important to continue all the current directives for hand washing, social distancing, and keeping sick people away from vulnerable populations.
Right now this is just a theory, but it is definitely something to think about if you are one of the ones who got awfully sick in the November/December/January timeframe last fall and are still alive today to talk about it. Once tested for antibodies, if positive, those people could immediately go back to work and our economy could get moving a whole lot faster than what was earlier thought. The people who havent had it could continue to self-isolate by choice, rather than by state shut-down directive, until there is either a vaccine (which may take at least a year or more) or drugs that can minimize the impacts of the effects of getting the virus.
Interesting...that’s consistent with COVID attacking hemoglobin. No SOB, just low sat.
“The first Covid-19 case occurred in China on Nov 17, 2019”
You really trust the Chinese to be honest?
Penn State sees influx of students from China. For more than a decade Penn State has worked to bring in more and more students from China. The results have been dramatic. The 2,411 Chinese students make up 5.2 percent of the campus's total undergraduate and graduate enrollment, based on last fall's numbers. How many of those students travelled home around Chinese New Year and brought back the virus?
The only nasty crud I’ve experienced has been the evil spread by the Democrats for the past 4 years.
I had flu/strep/ ear infection all at once in January, followed by some sort of respiratory nastiness that lasted 2 weeks and petered out with one big loogie every morning for a few days. Not sure what it was, but it ran its course and Ive been fine since. I wonder, but I am not going near people who are being tested cause I dont want it if I haven’t had it.
Ummmm. But many people did die of "flu-like" symptoms in the fall. They're just not talking about it now, because, well, they're dead.
I had an upper respiratory infection at the beginning of March, hacking cough, inflamed throat, went to the doctor a week into it for a routine blood pressure appointment, he said not the flu but seemed nervous around me, I self-isolated for two weeks when it started, then the coronavirus hit the country and everyone had to self-isolate. I’m a religious person and I wonder if the Lord took me out of public life to protect me from something worse.
You're to funny! Haven't you ever heard that "Dead Men Tell No Tales?"
As I said before: my girlfriend and her son both had this “crud” last two weeks of November.
It was so bad docs suspected pneumonia but BOTH test negative for pneumonia and flu.
Cough, fever for 3 or 4 days, malaise and then crud for two weeks.
Good thing is that if they DID have it I must be immune :)
I was sick in early January for almost two weeks. I am never sick that long.
Who knows what it was, but I hope to take the Antibody Test so I can find out if I was one of the Walking Dead.
Yup. Us too. Give us the antibody test!!
Since most of my meds are drying agents, the Cornea doc said I had to give up some.. well most where for serious conditions I’ve Gastropresis slow digestion, only thing that eases the pain is Lomotil as it is 2 mg pain med. Diazide is for fluid around Enlarged heart. So the Claratin and Flonase had to go. Every time they take me off the allergy med I get a month’s of Horrid Bronchitis. Her Restasis stung, 1 singlet caused a eye infection. Of course over the weekend when Ophthalmologist isn’t in, nor did she tell me the Meibomian glands were clogged. All 4 tear ducts are permanently closed.
There is now way to know unless a large selection of the population is tested for antibodies.
Something went around hereabouts in February. Many people got “uncomfortable”. Few missed any work because of it. People had “dry coughs” for a day and low grade fevers, some had “bad stomach” for a few hours. Now the Communist Flu is in the county but it is increasing in incidence only slowly. A family who were in WuHan came back home here in January.
im guessing it started in wuhan just started. before mid december
For later read.
Yup.
Back in about the first week of October I had a runny nose and a few body aches.
Trouble was, it ran like a river and DID NOT STOP !! for about three weeks.
Then I’m literally sittin here Halloween night thinking poor kids better not come around here or they’ll catch a doozy of a bug!
It broke the next day. Fever, headaches, coughed up a river of this green goop, couldn’t eat or sleep for about six days, then it was gone.
True story.
I had chills, fatigue and the cough. I do smoke but this was different back in december. I’m over 60 and was doing sweat shop work near Nashville. Cough lasted a month. Pretty sure that was it.
