HARRISBURG, PA All Pennsylvania schools will remain closed for the rest of the academic year due to the coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Tom Wolf announced Thursday.
The governor said he made the decision in consultation with Secretary of Health Rachel Levine and Secretary of Education Pedro Rivera.
Schools had been closed since March 13 due to the outbreak, which has killed more than 300 Pennsylvania residents.

Another example of not everything that’s happening is bad.
Im sure these high school seniors who expected to graduate this year are not going to be very happy at this situation.
Must be a DEM Governor...
We see new residential construction activity here in the Philly suburbs, so everything is not shut down.
Sure, your check will be issued on June 31st.
Yeah, it's funny how he made this decision just as it's becoming obvious that the numbers aren't as catastrophic as predicted. Our county announced yesterday that they're considering closing trails because people aren't sufficiently distancing. I didn't vote for this . . . but my neighbors did.
Never let a crisis go to waste . . .
WOW.
And I hope he didn’t mean decade and said year by accident for the schools
No doubt. I'm a retired parochial school teacher, and I'm mighty glad to have retired before this school year. The work involved in switching to remote instruction midyear is no picnic - if you care enough to actually teach. Many teachers (and students) will be doing the absolute minimum. I learned yesterday that the system where I worked has announced that they are not going to continue with the 403b contribution to teachers' defined contribution pension funds. They say they can't afford it under the circumstances. Teachers are welcome to contribute to their own funds of course. That's the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, so a lot of parochial school teachers are taking a pension cut. Public school teachers . . . I can't imagine it happening.
We have 4 Grandchildren graduating this year :( Two are seniors.
It's closed through the end of the academic year (June). The headline is scarier than the text of the article. Still, I agree it's overkill with the improving numbers and continual downward revisions in predictions. I think he had to be cautious because we neighbor NY and NJ, so I haven't griped too much about his enthusiasm for restrictions. It's over the top now, and I really think this is premature.
DEM communist
He opened trout season two weeks early. I guess bait and tackle shops are allowed to open.
I've suggested here that I wouldn't be shocked if 50% of the restaurants in this country will never open again even if everything is back to "normal" TOMORROW.
Since the schools are being closed, are all taxpayers getting a refund of much of their property taxes? I guess this is just a free vacay for the “Educators” at taxpayers’ expense. Pathetic.
Teachers have shifted to emergency remote learning. Quality is mixed, I'm sure. I retired this summer from teaching science in a parochial school. I'm relieved that I'm not trying to create educational experiences that replace chemistry and biology labs. My former colleagues are in that position. I see some parents are doing great stuff with their kids during this time. We are involved with two Scout troops, and we see some excellent home schooling/merit badge work on the part of our kids. Good parents are stepping up and making this time count. I predict an increase in home schooling among some of these families. I also think we've seen the last of snow days. Going forward they'll just switch to remote learning rather than declare snow days.
They can still graduate. They just have to do their online lessons properly. My former school put out a notice that they were disappointed with the Q3 grades. Apparently a lot of the students aren't doing their work too well at home. No surprise. Kids are kids, and half of them are below average.
Probably because his biggest customer is the government which is how he got rich in the first place.
And ain’t it against the law to pay public employees for not working?
