The Dual Reckoning to Come - At home and abroad, there’s some explaining to do.
spectator.org/ ^ | 4/9/20 | Scott McKay

(snip) -- Two reckonings are due on the Wuhan virus, and both should begin soon.

Let’s call these two reckonings the Foreign Reckoning and the Domestic Reckoning, because our current national crisis of an imprisoned and dying economy has dual sources.

The Foreign Reckoning, as has been discussed in this space and elsewhere, has to do with China. There are those in a panic over the idea that a Cold War might be in the offing with the Chinese communists, but perhaps after 30 years of watching our political elite pander to them and sell out our manufacturing base and middle class to the ChiComs, with the Wuhan coronavirus as the ultimate payoff, a good Cold War is exactly what the doctor ordered.

China is not a good global citizen. China is a corruptor of world markets and global culture. China operates on a mercantilist, win-lose paradigm that has been destructive to all of its trading partners.

You don’t have to ask people in America’s Rust Belt. Ask Italy whether or not their relationship with China has been a net positive.

The virus has exposed all of this. It can’t be hidden from anymore.

I doubt they’ll be any reckoning, more likely the Deep State will give itself a raise.

And will retain the power to shut down the country whenever an “expert” says so.

"Oh, you say that the fact the death toll (which has been inflated anyway) would have been worse but for the social distancing? Really? How come your data models, like the hilariously inept IHME model, all had factored social distancing into their numbers and nevertheless turned out to be wrong?"

"No. Sorry. You don’t get to stand over the corpse of the American economy and brag about all the lives you saved. That should turbocharge the public outrage to come, not tamp it down."

"There has been far too little pushback against this economic lockdown, and that doesn’t say good things about the America we currently live in. Far too many people have played the role of sheep, relentlessly echoing the media-driven hysteria of the Wuhan virus and slavishly adhering to the social-distancing mantras while tens of millions of livelihoods have been lost."

"But redemption, and the reckoning, is close at hand. And those who have butchered this economy in the face of an overblown hysteria deserve nothing less than the full comeuppance from the public they’ve manipulated and abused."

"Let’s get it going. The sooner the better."

I understand your point of view. It's ugly out there.

This morning I was listening to a story from a man in a huge slaughterhouse down south. He was explaining that the workers were all getting sick, 1,900 cattle come through every day. Things are very ugly in the chain. Lots of people are supposedly having to shoot their cattle and bury them. The supply chain is broken everywhere ..... it is said by people on the inside.

I'm no expert whatsoever, but it looks grim to this seventy-three year old observer.

Sun Tzu said: In the practical art of war, the best thing of all is to take the enemy’s country whole and intact; to shatter and destroy it is not so good. So, too, it is better to recapture an army entire than to destroy it, to capture a regiment, a detachment or a company entire than to destroy them.

2

Hence to fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy’s resistance without fighting. #

Here again, no modern strategist but will approve the words of the old Chinese general. Moltke’s greatest triumph, the capitulation of the huge French army at Sedan, was won practically without bloodshed.

Thus the highest form of generalship is to balk the enemy’s plans; #

“ He was explaining that the workers were all getting sick.”

Maybe he should have hired legal labor.

Interesting piece with some good points.

I am confident that Trump will move much of our pharmaceutical manufacturing back here to the US.

I think Trump will push to move medical equipment and supply manufacturing back here to the US.

In sincerely hope that Trump pushes to move manufacturing for our electrical grid back here to the US. Very few people know or understand how critical it might be to produce large electrical transformers and other equipment needed for our grid here in our own country. If we had a massive solar flare storm that knocked out our grid our nation would be paralyzed. Think of what the past month would have been like without electricity! While most people frame this in terms of an EMP attack, a solar storm might be even more devastating to our grid than even a deliberate EMP attack.

Most of the large transformers and switches that comprise our grid are made in China and we have very few spares on hand at any given time with a turn-around of months under ideal circumstances. This must be fixed also as there are very few SHTF scenarios that would be worse than dumping our electrical grid.

Well, all I’ve had to endure is no income and unpaid bills stacking up on my kitchen counter.

On the bright side, I’m healthy and don’t have to shoot 1900 cows.

Entirely agree with you. Here in Florida, they are plowing the vegetable crops under because there is no one to pick them, no one to ship them...and few places to ship them too.

This is probably going to result in famines further down the road. Not to mention massive social unrest the likes of which we have never seen before.

......”There has been far too little pushback against this economic lockdown, and that doesn’t say good things about the America we currently live in”.......

Oh I disagree.... I think what’s happening within this lockdown is Americans understand fully the threat and for the most part have cooperated with the guidence of the leaders God has put in place for our safety and protection...just as written...for our Good.

Perhaps you might consider God’s hand working within this to accomplish His purposes. And be careful you’re not pushing against the very men God has put in place to see us thru this storm.

And frankly it does matter, with certainty, how many lives are saved.

It will be very interesting to see how God uses good men to bring recovery to the economic fallout. Those same Americans we see operating now to fight this will also help us rebuild the economy......I believe it will start out slow as things are put into place and then it’s going to roar.

The nation was haulted.....the economy slowed way down but not destroyed. Do not underestimate the goodness of God and those He calls to His purposes and will.

Not likely....there’s still summer and fall planting that will occur. And trade will be back in place worldwide.....we may see a price increase on groceries and some limitations but we’ll be ok.

“to produce large electrical transformers and other equipment needed for our grid here in our own country. “

We did that for years.
GE dumped all the crapola into the Hudson River, like everyone else was dumping in the rivers all across America. Couldn’t swim in it for years.

Decades later, they began a “cleanup”, digging up the years of mud that was securely covering up all the nastiness, re-floating it all into the river.

Dumb in the beginning. Dumb again later.

We CAN do manufacturing here.
Just remember the mantra: Don’t shiite were you eat.

The author must really hate POTUS.

All the actions in this series of events have been taken by the Federal and State executives.

But POTUS put his brand on the guidelines and recommendations of the task force. It is his executive will that owns it.

I suspect those who agree with the author really hate POTUS too. How could it be otherwise?

Good article.

But the two most in need of reckoning are the democrat party and their acconplices that incited fear and panic leading to the shut down: the mainstream media.

“And frankly it does matter, with certainty, how many lives are saved.”

Please explain that bit of pablum. How much do you believe should be spent to save a life? Is submitting to tyranny worth saving a life? How much liberty and wealth will you forcibly extract from the rest of us to save life?

IN WW2 about 500,000 lives of mostly young men were not saved. Would you have saved their lives by keeping us out of WW2?

Has your business or job been destroyed by these tyrannical diktats? Or are you part of the 50%+ getting a check fro the government?
