This past years flu shot was about 45% effective. But even that’s a projection. That means if 1,000,000 got a shot, only 450,000 didn’t get the flu. The unknown is how many of those would NOT have gotten the flu without the shot.
I couldn’t find it on any of the major networks or CSpan - dish network. So I just turned off the TV. JERKS — nothing more important than to hear the President in my opinion—but he was getting too much positive face time with people.
They want to be able to lie about him and what he said.
Just speculating here: No doubt personnel are using a lot more masks at work now. A jump to (say) 100,000 might be expected. That could easily be checked by comparison with other hospitals. My best guess about the remaining 200,000 — they walked out the door, with staff, who want them for themselves and their families at home. I can’t say that I would resist the temptation if I were in their place — but, it shouldn’t be allowed to continue (if that is what’s happening). Normally, such pilfering would be no big deal — but, these aren’t normal times.

If you watched Sunday’s briefing on C-Span, you would have seen three so-called journalists grinning at each other right after this briefing, with its very serious and truly breaking news, ended.
C-SPAN kept its cameras on for 30 seconds after the Task Force had departed. The man (Jeremy from CNN?) who had handed the microphone to the woman for her second question did something similar to a high five right after the briefing. He walked toward that woman as he stretched out his arm with his hand reaching toward her upper arm, maybe even touching it, though his hand was away from the camera by that time. They grinned at each during this exchange. Into the picture came the woman wearing the pale green jacket. Her facial expression, like the other two, was one of a person who had just had a great victory.
All of these reporters should have been very somber, having just learned the breaking news about the guidelines continuing for a month. This seriousness should have lasted at least one minute, even if Jeremy was congratulating her for something unrelated to the briefing ... which I doubt anyway.

That was in fact Alcindor’s question. I’m not certain it was her intent to be snarky, although I might just be being naiive.
Folks here don’t seem to realize the flu shot does not prevent the flu. It only makes it less likely but not 100%.
If you get the shot too early in the year, its effectiveness could wane, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
The flu vaccine can take the average healthy adult’s immune system up to two weeks to build up enough antibodies for protection, which means you still have a chance of getting the flu within those two weeks.
If you have a weakened or impaired immune system your chances of getting the flu are higher, even if you’ve been vaccinated.
Ya, I think I recall that. I agree that it seemed out of line for supposedly unbiased reporters to demonstrate such strong bias.
If one does a google search for snarky PBS reporter, Alcindor’s name comes up as the first match. She’s made her bed, so now she can go lie on it, I guess.
Agreed, and with regard to the controls in particular, I would add that SK has an astonishing surveillance system of the people. The US simply does not have such an infrastructure (thank God!) To equal just part of it, adjusted for NYC’s population, I estimated on an older thread that you’d have 70 MILLION cameras in NYC, monitoring people’s public movements.
I also think SK literally had more “respect” throughout the gov’t and the people for this sort of potential outbreak, and they also did not have our early testing glitch. The “glitch” may not have been anyone’s fault, but in terms of preparedness of plans alone, CDC was quite caught off guard: Being on guard is their business, IMO.
They believe their only job is to take down Trump and the killer virus is their weapon to do it. They couldn’t care less about those dying or those fighting it.
President Trump mentioned at some length a machine to do mass disinfections of masks for re-use, up to 20 times. Does anyone know what process this machine uses? Specifics, please (but no need to go into patent level detail!)
