The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of two anti-malaria drugs to treat patients infected by the new coronavirus.
On Sunday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) said in a statement that chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine could be prescribed to teens and adults with COVID-19 "as appropriate, when a clinical trial is not available or feasible," after the FDA issued an Emergency Use Authorization. (EUA) That marked the first EUA for a drug related to COVID-19 in the U.S., according to the statement.
Currently, there are no specific drugs for COVID-19 which, as shown in the Statista graph below (accurate as of March 26), has sickened over half a million people. According to Johns Hopkins University, over 720,000 cases have been confirmed, more than 34,000 people have died, and over 152,000 have recovered since the pandemic started in China late last year.

Just curious, is there any proof that doctors are hoarding HCQ? Or is this a myth made up by some progressive? I’ve seen accusations in the MSM, but no proof other than another person saying so. I might add, I think it is a good thing if doctors think HCQ is an effective treatment for the ChiCom flu, and it is a good thing that doctors are prescribing it to themselves, if, and this is an important if, they are coming into contact with the ChiCom flu. We want doctors around to treat the ill. That goes for all healthcare professions that come into contact with the ChiCom flu.
People who have heart disease generally know it. People with G6PD Def usually dont. If you look at the prevalence and demographics of G6PD Def. You may begin to understand why my initial response was This is a terrible Drug. In some demographics the Deficiency is up to 10%. The morbidity of hemolytic anemia can be fatal by itself.
Meant to say that the price of “plaquenil” according to drugs.com is $11.00/pill while the price of “hydroxychloroquine” is under $0.70/pill.
Nope, the study is already well underway. Trump said so during the press conference. He specifically said they started administering two days ago.
Yes you pay for the brand name, so caution is in order with that.
Such people have no rationale. Remind them that even water can kill you if misused.
Two DemoRat governors still say Nope.
Ask them if they drink Mr Clean floor cleaner because it lists water as one of the ingredients which I hear people really love now.
Like only a month...Yes thats fast in govt speed. Now ask why they didnt start the process back in January.
I agree. The FDA is a disgrace. They will approve every ass suckng drug that has all these side effects, but they drag their asses on a provenly safe 100 year old drug that costs $20 only after the internet starts blowing up on its effectiveness. The crap in NY, NJ wouldnt have been as bad if they listened to Trump 2 weeks ago. Thanks to the FDA, and Govs in Nevada and Michigan, we now know this whole thing was political from the beginning!
What conditions and meds that are contraindicated?
Good news!
They already wore that one out like a tire with 200,000 miles on it.
By safe, they mean that serious side effects are few and well known and the risks are acceptable. Effective means that medical science has determined that the drugs are an effective treatment for coronavirus.
I dont think it is nearly as bad as your criticisms imply. Remember, their job is surveillance. You want a tool for specificity. Once you understand alpha and beta errors youll what I am saying. A test to help make a diagnosis has a different sensitivity/specificity (remember Heisenbergs cat?)
Effective at reducing mortality has far from been established.
HCQ won’t do it by itself - you will also need to obtain a Z-pack, aka azithromycin, to have the desired effect.
“(remember Heisenbergs cat?)”
No, nobody remembers Heisenbergs cat. They may remember Schrodinger’s cat.
