Well, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) is probably the most hated man in Washington D.C. right now. He threatened to derail passage of the Wuhan coronavirus relief bill that sailed through the Senate on a 96-0 vote. Its a $2 trillion package that admittedly has some bad stuff in it, but American businesses and workers need relief as the nation fights this Wuhan coronavirus outbreak thats infected over 85,000 people and killed at least 1,200. States have adopted severe measures to stop the spread, instituting bans of mass gatherings of more than 10 people, closing non-essential businesses for a least a month or more, and shuttering the schools. The markets have tanked. It was imperative that the government compile this rescue package to help workers, stabilize the markets, and ensure that the flow of credit remains unrestricted.
Yet, Massie threatened to gum up the works unless there was a recorded vote, which would have put the entire House at risk of exposure to this disease. D.C., Virginia, and Maryland are virtually on lockdown, with the District recently shuttering non-essential businesses until the end of April. Massies antics forced scores of lawmakers to fly back in case he succeeded in his effort. This move had some calling for Massie to be expelled from the House.

Flimsey Grahamnesty has tried to abandon the rule of law and give our country to illegal aliens THREE times and this is the guy everybody wants thrown out of Congress?
The guy who saw how much garbage was in this bill. And how much money was being wasted. I wish he would have followed through
Why couldn't they just have sent their votes by e-mail, or Skype or Zoom? Then, we could have had a recorded vote.
It wasn't secret ballot or anything.
Meanwhile, in the real world, a kid showed up at Kroger today to run the register as did older folks to bag your groceries.
Doctors, nurses and orderlies continue to report to hospitals to care for the sick.
The Amazon worker is still in the warehouse filling your order while you stay safely (?) at home.
The fast food worker, who is thankful they still have a job, was fixing your order so you could carry it back home.
Cry me a river if Congress had to be called back to DO THEIR JOB!
Better....IF Continuity of Government is essential here, why aren’t they off at one of the secret bunkers??
The more I hear about the process of creating, and especially passing this coronavirus stimulus the more I fear its a repeat of Iraq WMD, stimulus 2009 and Obamacare (you have to pass it to find out whats in it).
Just another opportunity for the DC political class to bypass the Constitution and rob America blind.
I expect the next time we hear from Massie will be when some azzhat suggests cuts in social security. He’ll be on the wrong side of that too.
Yup. See ads daily in our area for jobs at the many warehouse “fulfillment” centers. Minimum $15/hr to start and pretty sure yesterday I saw the Amazon ad indicate double time for any overtime. Big thanks to folks who are still working. Bigger thanks to the truckers and other long haul transportation folks. Trains, planes and trucks.
Th post brought to you by AOC, who is no longer the most hated person in Congress.
they have the wrong person to hate. Pelosi is the one who defied the needs of the nation. She held it up much more than 43 seconds and added so much pork the bill could have sunk from the mere weight of it. Don’t criticize Massie. Pelosi is the evil swamp creature!!!
Of course I thought spending bills were supposed to originate in the House... but why let the Constitution get in the way.
Except we and the legislators knew what was in this latest POS bail out and passed it with an absence of negative comment. Few spoke against it.
They inserted the bill inside the shell of a house bill to get around that technicality.
I was rooting for Massie. Every constitutionalist on FR should be doing the same. If you live in his district, support him in the election, donate to him. Keep him in Congress. We need more like him!
That 2 trillion amounts to $5,700k in debt for every living person in the USA. How much will be administrative costs wasted on ever more government employees?
Then why would Trump sign it?
I think he did make the motion, but no one seconded it, so... there was nothing else he could do. You have to have someone second your motion.
"He threatened to derail passage of the Wuhan coronavirus relief bill... "
Not true at all. Massie simply pointed out many faults in the bill, and wanted the House to do what the Constitution requires, and what every other person in a vital industry needs to do - show up at work.
Massie and everybody else, including President Trump, knew that there were enough congressmen in Washington to reach a quorum and pass the bill. But none of them, including President Trump, wanted to have a record of who voted for the stimulus.
Makes you wonder why. Probably because, as Massie noted there is ten times more money for banks, corporations, and other members of the political elite than for out of work Americans. At the same moment the Democrats are complaining about a shortage of masks for hospital workers they took 25 million dollars and allocated it to the Kennedy Center, instead of masks, or medicines, or ventilators.
Massie pointed out the dangerous behavior of swamp dwelling Democrats and Republicans. He and everybody else knew the bill would pass without delay. But nobody in the swamp wanted a recorded vote. If the bill was so great why didn't they want to proudly put their names on it?
Orwell’s “Two Minutes Hate” is alive and well.
