We are not South Korea and cannot do the kind of in depth 2 hr 50 deep contact tracing they do. Also, once you are put in mandatory isolation in SK what are the penalties for breaking it.

The “We’re all going to die and we must shut down the country” is definitely a hoax. For some hoaxers it is done with good intentions and others have nefarious political motivations. It matters not in the end what motivations there are. The economy is destroyed and we are facing 20% unemployment thanks to the Kung Flu Panic of 2020.

edited, My sister in law lives in Singapore. This is for real. They have people assigned at entrances with hand held infra-red heat guns. She said she was scanned 5 times just today. Anyone who displays a high body temp are isolated and asked who they have been with? How long they felt like this? If they ever coughed in public ?. The shelves in stores are full and there is no panic. From what she says. This is a very effective and organized way to handle the crisis.

Calculating the value of human life at $.02 per life we should just take everybody over 60 out and shoot them and let everybody get a two week cold. Devoid emotion it is the “logical” thing to do. Unfortunately we tend to be emotional. Myself, I have done parachuting, scuba diving, rappelling into caves, and mountain climbing. Understanding the risks and mitigating them into “negligible” let’s you accomplish just about anything you desire. Rappelling without rope is an experience you only get once.
And your preferred method is what?
NYC is not doing what Singapore does because the mayor is an incompetent jackass. As much as I despise with all of my being Andrew Cuomo, he is taking an aggressive plan to try to stop this spread. I live in NY, and part of the problem of why we have so many infections is because NY is a sanctuary state with a lot of Chinese and illegals. And now for the really racist and xenophobic part, the illegals are not clean. They cough, do not wash their hands and live in disgusting cramped housing in dense areas. I see them every day. I am holed up in my house washing down doorknobs and clothes each time I go out. The leftist policies of open borders and reckless welfare spending caused the Wuhan virus to proliferate in NY and CA the way it has. And the economic effect is already devastating. God only knows how long it will take to recover.
Is not trying to forecast something using incomplete data. Focus on containment, treatment and prevention.
The forecasts are junk science....as evidenced by some saying Wuhan Virus is a nothingburger while others believe it could kill millions.
Science does not know enough about this strain to make any predictions.
You would expect the curves for asymptomatic, mild, seriously ill, and deaths to have some sort of relationship to one another, surely. It would be a strange universe indeed if they all had different slopes.
