Dr Anthony Fauci has rebuked Donald Trump's claim that anti-malaria drug chloroquine could be a game-changer in the fight against COVID-19.
Dr Facui, who is a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, made the claim during an interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN Thursday evening.
'There's no magic drug for coronavirus right now,' the top doctor told Cooper.
Earlier in the day, Trump told media that there had been positive results after doctors trialled chloroquine on COVID-19 patients, and suggested the drug could be a game-changer.
'It's shown very, very encouraging early results. We're going to be able to make that drug available almost immediately. It's been approved,' he said.
However, Dr Fauci said on CNN just a few hours later: 'Let me put it into perspective for the viewers .. there has been anecdotal non-proven data that it [chloroquine] works... but when you have an uncontrolled trial you can never definitely say that it works'.
He repeated his caution on Friday in an interview with Today, saying: 'Even though the information is anecdotal that they may work, we need to prove it so people would get the right drug that's safe and effective.
'What we're saying is these are drugs that have some suggestion that they may work,' he went on, but that controlled trials needed to be done to prove that they are effective.
The University of Minnesota is looking for people who have been in contact with a known positive case of COVID-19 to volunteer for a trial to test Hydroxychloroquine and see if it is effective in preventing people from catching the virus.
They need 1,500 people to take part in the trial and so far have 150.

If he were to be continuing on the path you posit he is putting a rope around his own neck in defending the glacial pace of his agency that costs billions in doing anything expediently
This to me reminds me of the movie Couch Trip with Dan Ackroyd as an escaped mental patient who takes on the position of a Psychiatrist Dr. Baird. He is speaking in front of a conference of other Psychiatrists and he says this..
Why cure something in short time, when you can cure it in a long time....
In other words milk the patient for visit fees needlessly to fill your own [pocket versus cure them as quickly as you can but lose money from all of the visits that are really unnecessary
And in the movie all of the folks at the conference nod knowingly and applaud his comments as they understand the longer you draw it out the more money they make regardless of the suffering they experience
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the CDC and the FDA
Now, what do we plan to do about it?
Glacial Government and effect is like cooking a hot dog on a Glacier...
You will die well before it is done if ever...
But they were paid all the way along
Sic Semper Tyrranis!
Please view this interview of Dr. William Grace about the current effective use of Hydroxychloroquine.

You and Daniel Court.
Take Fauci out and shoot him!!
Terrible comment.
The message that POTUS is giving to American citizens is totally different than the message a doctor should give. POTUS message is one of optimism and hope in difficult times while a doctors message is more clinical and specific. People need to understand the difference.
The number of subjects was not a large sampling, but there were 16 control subjects, if I remember correctly. Those were in comparison to 20 chloroquine subjects, also IIRC.
Exactly.
apparently. it as he is still breathing
Sadly, there are many physicians and hospitals who are fearful of doing anything new until the FDA has officially completed a large study proving efficacy. Many people will die before these overly cautious doctors & hospitals stop restricting themselves to routine.
......................................................................
....there may some truth to that, but are there any cases right now that you are aware of where patients in the hospital with COVID-19 are being denied hydroxychloroquine? ...
as best as i can tell, no one is waiting for anything regarding hydroxychloroquine for hospitalized with COVID-19...

Wow...you have a lot more faith in the broad swath of the liability risk-adverse American medical community than I do. I guess you must be privy to knowledge of data about the extent of current use of Hydroxychloroquine in American hospitals to treat Chinese Coronavirus infections.
If a member of my family is infected, Ill DEMAND the medication. Most poor schmucks who become infected havent a clue about that possibility. I guess youre assuming that all hospitals will encourage all these unknowledgeable patients to undergo the treatment. In my experience, assumption can kill in medicine as well as in war.
Even if it’s only effective enough to prevent hospitals from running out of ventilators, it’s a game-changer. Hopefully, it will be much more of a game-changer than that.
Could be a game-changer. Is that anything like 56% of Californians COULD be affected by the virus?

If you’re curious tonic water (with quinine) is all gone now, too.
The medication has been in continuous use since the late nineteen forties. Passengers taking it on a cruise ship which was quarantined for Wuhan Flu did not contract the virus.
So data on safe dosage already exists and the side effects have been well understood for over half a century.
Words like “could”, “may”, “might”, etc. exist for a reason. They convey less than 100% certainty. They are shorthand for more complicated expressions like “looks promising”. People that reflexively dismiss anything that is not absolute are disrupting the exchange of information. It’s not helpful.
I’d have to look them up again, as I don’t recall the percentages, but I do remember that the combination of chloroquine and azithromycin did result in a full cure in six days. Chloroquine alone took longer...again I don’t recall numbers, but definitely more than six days.
The tests were replicated in China, Japan, Korea and most recently in France and the USA with SIMILAR results.
In each case there were dozens of patients.
Me neither. I’ts POS left wing mouthpiece.
You mean dont get between either one of them and a camera?
Absolutely !
But more than that, Schumer expects to be on camera. Fauci is so excited about it, I'm surprised he hasn't wet his pants. (Or maybe he has?)
ML/NJ
They’re still gonna have to scale up production and distribution. They don’t want a bunch of people running out willy-nilly thinking the pandemic is “over”, getting sick and creating supply disruptions while they do it.
They have forty cases in Franse cured with Chloroquine. South Korea has many documented cases
As usual American DiC’s are terrified to try something they don’t have lots and lots of data on
