Spring-breakers defy coronavirus lockdown: ‘This virus ain’t that serious’

They’re gonna fight for their right to party.

Thousands of American college students refuse to let the pesky coronavirus pandemic get in the way of their annual pilgrimage to Florida for spring break.

Ignoring repeated warnings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization about the potentially deadly COVID-19 virus, the masses showed up in Miami — only to find their good times hijacked by safety measures to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus that are taking effect.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered the closure of all bars and nightclubs in the state for 30 days as of Tuesday evening — after college crews were spotted partying at Clearwater Beach. “A lot of students have just been congregating at the universities and doing things there, and that’s not something we want,” DeSantis said at a news conference Tuesday.

Resolute revelers in the city’s South Beach neighborhood, however, vowed to keep the party popping.

“If I get corona, I get corona,” Brady Sluder, a defiant party animal of indeterminate age from Ohio, told Reuters. “At the end of the day, I’m not going to let it stop me from partying.”

Launching at the peak of Miami’s tourist season, “social distancing” precautions will also see national movie theaters, gyms and other businesses shut down to discourage gatherings of more than 10 people, which the CDC warns could spread the virus. However, the governor stopped short of closing some of the beaches spring-breakers were partying on, WFLA reported.

They are probably in more risk going home.

But, I would be concerned about the older folks running the hotels and bars.

None of them are coming to my house after...so, one way or the other it doesn’t much matter.

‘This virus ain’t that serious’
They get it how the media is just spreading scaremongering the numbers prove it.So far over 20,000 have died of the flu thousands more than the corona BS.

The media is having a wet dream about all the panic they spread to the low informed.

Report much appreciated, glad your trip went well. Have been looking for an excuse to visit HI, bet it will be cheap(er) in a year or so.

“I do suspect that local vacations and camping will be the “Big Thing” this summer.”

Perhaps in late spring/early summer, am already contemplating the latter with the kids soon, but by the time the “Trump checks” (watch Big Media avoid that phrase) arrive, I think a lot of people are going to be eager to travel again.

Disney will be eager to open, too, at perhaps less than a hundred a ticket. :-)

College-age people avoiding human contact to wait out a disease that is only marginally worse than the common flu would be stupid.

Ignoring all the warnings about how the virus is transmitted and taking every step possible to ensure they are able to pass the virus to parents, grandparents, and any elderly person they come in contact with is indeed stupid.

The more time that goes by, the more this whole crisis has an "Emily Litella" feel to it.

Regardless of how they come across, chances are they are right. We are destroying our economy over a bad case of the flu

I repeat, it's only marginally worse than the flu. Should human contact be avoided to about the same degree since the flu could transmitted to parents, grandparents, etc. in the same way?

The infection is not going to run through the population and vanish in three weeks.

Right? I used to think college tuition was too high. This behavior shows it is not high enough.

I’ll give it a couple weeks.

After that I am willing to take my chances.

Keep elderly with compromised immune system away from the

general population. Continue to quarantine infected.

Not interested in being under house arrest after the 2 weeks.

The media has done a good job of creating a state of semi-panic among the population. Hard to keep your head when everyone around you has been whipped into a frenzy.

Thinning the herd?

“Hey Bubba, hold my (Corona) beer and watch this!”

Is there a “Class Action” category for the Darwin Awards?

There are far too many unknowns about the virus. What if these kids never encountered someone with the virus, then mingled with each other at the beaches and bars, and went back home.
Maybe few will get it. If they do, they could infect oldsters.

Wonder if some are born immune? 1) oddly some people can smoke for decades and have no problems (George Burns and others). Others go quickly into lung cancer or emphysema in their forties and die. Has to be in the genes at conception.
As a co-worker said comparing dementia victims to cheerful and active normal people in their 80-100: “It’s not their secrets of healthy lifestyles-—it was in their genes.”

2) New Age Dr.Deepak Chopra wrote that studies and articles often say 81% who got X disease in Africa died. Or X% of malaria victims in the building of the Panama Canal died. But they never study the ones who didn’t die and what was there about them that let them survive? That would be useful to us all.”(from memory, not a quote).

Recently they said blood type A gets it worse. Those with current high blood pressure when they contacted it got it worse. That kind of thing could lead to better outcomes someday.
