Theyre gonna fight for their right to party.
Thousands of American college students refuse to let the pesky coronavirus pandemic get in the way of their annual pilgrimage to Florida for spring break.
Ignoring repeated warnings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization about the potentially deadly COVID-19 virus, the masses showed up in Miami only to find their good times hijacked by safety measures to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus that are taking effect.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered the closure of all bars and nightclubs in the state for 30 days as of Tuesday evening after college crews were spotted partying at Clearwater Beach. A lot of students have just been congregating at the universities and doing things there, and thats not something we want, DeSantis said at a news conference Tuesday.
Resolute revelers in the citys South Beach neighborhood, however, vowed to keep the party popping.
If I get corona, I get corona, Brady Sluder, a defiant party animal of indeterminate age from Ohio, told Reuters. At the end of the day, Im not going to let it stop me from partying.
Launching at the peak of Miamis tourist season, social distancing precautions will also see national movie theaters, gyms and other businesses shut down to discourage gatherings of more than 10 people, which the CDC warns could spread the virus. However, the governor stopped short of closing some of the beaches spring-breakers were partying on, WFLA reported.

These kids may be young but at least they have the American spirit that most in this country used to have. There was a time when the citizens wouldnt shut the country down and allow the economy to crash while being obsessed with finding toilet paper and hand sanitizer while they get a preview of socialism. Good for these kids. At least some are actually expressing a right to do something.
Wherewithal is wasted on the old.
They are not stupid or selfish. They intuitively know what the close-downers don’t — you don’t socially distance yourself due to fear of getting a sickness that is most likely to be serious only for people with preexisting conditions. They didn’t have to socially distance themselves for similar Obama-era diseases, so why should they do so now?
I wish more FReepers would read posts like yours and think rationally. When you have a viral outbreak where one part of the population is at a high risk, the most effective course of action is to isolate and protect THEM not impose restrictions that immobilize the population at large.
You gotta fight, for your right, to PARTY!!!!
I'd bet the people in Gen Z have more common sense than the Millenials, although that may not be saying much.
The vitamin D they develop from the sunlight is good for immunity. Running around on the beach they'll have lots of exposure to sun on their skin.
Hawaii Gov. David Ige calls for 30-day suspension of visitors to Hawaii.
Yep, they’re gonna hurt.
Can’t fix stupid.
smart kids... who knew?
“Maybe theyre smarter than the everyone else.”
Not. A. Chance.
Sounds like an educated yute.
They aren’t giving up liberty for safety and ending up with neither though
Why would anyone want to piss over a bread truck? Ha ha.
Because it was there.
Lots of subshine and beer over two or three straight days is believed to prohibit the entry of virus into the body.
College-age people avoiding human contact to wait out a disease that is only marginally worse than the common flu would be stupid.
Government at all levels shutting down half the economy in reaction to that disease would be stupid.
