CHICAGO For centuries, 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit was said to be the average, normal body temperature. Its not.

Then I want a refund on that $6 digital Rexall thermometer I bought at Dollar General last month, because it’s calibrated wrong! I got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!
Oh great! Let’s give everyone another reason to panic. Now the cutoff for testing is gonna be 99.5 instead of over 100.
I'm pretty sure 98.6 is still normal for some.
Yeah, the doctor should have given you at least one sentence to
that effect.
So let’s just call it 98. Simple enough and close enough to diagnose the sick.
Yep, I am also at that number normally. I always thought it was a little too low. Guess not.
[The erf has a fevah.]
And there’s only one cure for it! (a rare moment when they were actually funny)

CDC says call if greatercthan 99.0
That was a real blast from the past. Thanks.
Everything they tie to glowbull warming and Trump.
Correct.
People, along with all animals and living things, all have a range of temperatures considered to be ‘normal’.
I have always run 1 degree lower than 98.6 for example.
I was very much a hypochondriac at one time in my life.
Now i’m 7 years behind on a follow up colonoscopy because a 3cm polyp was removed and 6 years behind on a follow up endoscopy because pre cancerous cells were scraped off my esophagus during the procedure.
They’re way down on my list of things to do. Of course the top of the list possibly won’t matter :)
Talk about extremes :)
Thank you.
Doesn't matter, I can tell when I am running hot. 8>)
I just bought a new digital thermometer on Amazon. I think it was the last one on Amazon that was less than $100. Good luck getting one now. The cheap ones are back ordered till May. I think they all come from China.
Anyways, I thought it was defective because it kept saying my temperature was around 97.8. I guess it aint broke and Im normal.
Men also run higher body temps on average than women due to a, generally, quicker metabolism. My husband is a Human heater, but my body temp hovers around 96°F, even in summer.
Look, none of us want to do that stuff, but catching things early is
what it's all about.
I really need to get in too. I will in the next couple of months.
Mime is also 96.8
That makes three of us. 96.something for me, too.
I was wondering whether my thermometer was broken, but I guess not.
I think standard came from a German doctor who measured in Celsius. That's why 98.6°F just happens to be a nice, round 37°C. The 37 was the original number.
By definition a fever is 38C or 100.4 regardless of your basal temp
