The surge of coronavirus cases throughout the United States and around the world has brought countries to a practical standstill.
While countries like Italy, Spain and China have declared complete lockdowns in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19, life in the United States also has dramatically changed in just a week.
From work to entertainment to even worship, several aspects of American life have been reordered as health officials encourage the public to carry out "social distancing" to prevent the spread of the infection.

The less public gatherings we have now the better. Its a new virus. We dont have immunity to it. We dont have a vaccine to it. We want to decrease the amount of spread, Fox News medical contributor Dr. Marc Siegel said Sunday.
CORONAVIRUS IN THE US: STATE-BY-STATE BREAKDOWN
In the New Jersey city of Hoboken, a strict nightly curfew was imposed that would ban any resident from being outside between 10 a.m. until 5 a.m. the next day....

According to Anna Freud and Edward Glover, London civilians surprisingly did not suffer from widespread shell shock, unlike the soldiers in the Dunkirk evacuation. The psychoanalysts were correct, and the special network of psychiatric clinics opened to receive mental casualties of the attacks closed due to lack of need. Although the stress of the war resulted in many anxiety attacks, eating disorders, fatigue, weeping, miscarriages, and other physical and mental ailments, society did not collapse. The number of suicides and drunkenness declined, and London recorded only about two cases of "bomb neurosis" per week in the first three months of bombing. Many civilians found that the best way to retain mental stability was to be with family, and after the first few weeks of bombing, avoidance of the evacuation programmes grew.
I suspect Soros is celebrating with some $1,000 a bottle booze.
If you garden, you might just want to get your seeds (survival fresh food) soon, before THAT’s gone.
When I visited the local market yesterday the shelves were well stocked, TP was available and on sale at $2.99 a four-pack.
I have not altered my routine one iota.
Out here in the sticks I am unaware of any effort to make me forego any local dining or events.
From what I see living in “The City” is already it’s own punishment. ;-)
The panic is just an extra helping.
“Social distancing”...a new term for avoiding rejection.
I am for social distancing when it comes to liberal rat progressives
As test results start being released there will be disturbing numbers but compared to flu related deaths in the 2017-2018 flu season this is likely going to be a huge non-event. But the media and the Democrats were so busy trying to get rid of President Trump that they did not even notice a pretty bad flu season.
So how does this play out in the next election? The President will be able to claim his actions beat this thing. While the media and Democrats will claim the resulting panic caused economic downturn was President Trump’s fault.
It’s the sniffles people.
I live in Jacksonville FL and the only thing Ive seen is that the restaurants are pretty empty. But Im doing my best to make it up! Your chances of getting anything from sitting outside on a sunny restaurant patio are pretty slim. And, as we used to say in my old days as a server when we drank customers left over drinks, alcohol kills germs...(we were teenagers, back in the day when you could drink at 18 and thus could serve alcohol at that age, so we were pretty hardy anyway, I suspect).
Wash your hands, which is good advice anyway, because you also avoid a lot of other icky bacterial stuff (like e-coli, etc.). And if people feel theyre at risk, they can stay home. Destroying the entire economy of a city or town to satisfy media hysteria is the real tragedy.
Stunning! And not one bullet or bomb required.
I think this is more of a problem in urban areas.
Orson Well’s “War of the World” hoax radio show caused the same reaction......
panicdemic
It is quite stunning isnt it, I think this is a generational thing we have created a bunch of snowflakes AND that scares me a hell of a lot more than this damn virus!! OMG people can see for themselves that people are NOT dropping dead in the streets what in the hell are they thinking!! I am SO PISSED at the MSM right now my blood is BOILING!!
Only 1 out of 50,000 Italians has died .
Most here are of European origin.
We can expect deaths and hospital ventilator demand at an Italian level.
Probably less than 500,000 Americans are currently infected.
Me to. There were people on Twitter (I know) who were bashing Fox News for doing a story on spring flowers. They said people are dying in the streets while Fox News ignores the virus. Of course leaving out that Fox News spoke of the virus continuously the previous 72 hours and decided to show a five minute segment of something else. Frustrating!!!!
I’ve been doing Social Distancing for years.
Some are missing the point. Those empty shelves you see (just as I did when shopping today) mean people were spending money like crazy.
Yes, large group activities like sports and music events, travel and cruise business are taking it in the shorts. But ANY business that consumers use for food & personal items got 2 months worth of business in a weekend.
I expect Walmart to post huge sales numbers.
YES, some of those purchases will offset future buying. But a lot is perishables. And when those shelves are stocked again Monday morning the consumption will begin again.
In a week or two it will dawn on people that theyve been stuck at home and there was less than 1/10th of 1% of Americans that got sick, and 99% plus of them got better.
I expect a bit of a backlash.
And it is not just the people... in Washington state where we live all the schools have been shut down as well. And most of the places where they normally ditch their kids are shut down as well. For the first week or two the kids will consider it an early Spring break, but even with all of their phones, tablets, computers and video games the kids will still start getting cabin fever and drive their parents crazy.
I have not altered my routine one iota.
Out here in the sticks I am unaware of any effort to make me forego any local dining or events.

Same here. I just returned from shopping and, except for a few empty TP shelves in the stores, everything seems normal and everyone appears to be living life as usual. Nobody is out and about wearing masks, and there have been no confirmed cases of the virus in the county.
