Then at this point your guess that it’s lower than reported is no more valid than a guess that it might be higher, although I suppose it does fall into the category of “believe whatever you want”.

Wrong. They are currently using known infected divided by dead to arrive at death rate. In fact unless they test everyone in America (won't happen) they will have no accurate way of determining how many are infected which is needed to determine the accurate kill rate.

That link cites authoritative studies.

Your argument is at the level of a sophomoric food fight.

I’ve been involved at the highest levels of that science world. It is obvious you have zero experience there.

i assume you know it’s actually grown “exponentially” in the U.S. because you fitted the few hundred data points here to a time curve, versus say fitting the same data to a geometrical growth line?

I did better than that. I determined that in a week, the death rate had increased times 2.29. Obviously, the more data the better. Next week should tell a lot.

But we won’t hear a peep about how most patients recover. We will hear neverending reports about deaths increasing but we won’t hear the average age of such deaths is 80+ nor will we hear that such deaths occurred in people with poor health to begin with.

It would appear by your response that I'm a lot closer to 80 in age than you are.

In my 60s. Semi-retired, healthy, thankful.

If you’re in fair health, stock up on the list of items I left above. I have and I would do that and stay indoors if I was approaching 80.

People who are 80+ deserve our deepest commitment but waiting for a vaccine is not the answer and could be more harmful.

“In fact unless they test everyone in America (won’t happen) they will have no accurate way of determining how many are infected which is needed to determine the accurate kill rate.”

Due to (very likely) deliberate under-reporting of fatality count (China, et al), as well as those who die without the cause of death being accurately diagnosed, there’s also no way of knowing the actual number of corona-related fatalities - which is also necessary to determine the actual kill rate.

You are foolish to make such a post

Every day at about 5:30 or so, the Virus Task Group has a press conference. Each of the experts presents up to date information on their particular area of expertise. These presenters are the foremost experts in the world

Rather than make foolish posts, watch the 45 minutes or so of news conference.

To deny expertise is extremely foolish

Although you are likely a FReeper Fox News DEnier, that is a good source. Fox Business is also a good pace to watch

All you say is true and we are just going to have to wait and see. My gut tells me this is a wildly over hyped situation and in the end will turn into nothing more than another “bug” no different in it’s effect on us then the others before it.

I’m 49 and saw my doctor yesterday to be reminded I am overweight. 158 over 96 blood pressure. Guess what keeps me up tonight? Not a virus.

I think it’s pretty nervy to laugh at old-time generations and their beliefs about remedies (never mind the snake-oil salesmen), then turn around and go to bat for these “natural” cures (which are making 100% profit, vs. real research and FDA regulations contributing mightily to the expense of real pharma).

At least then, they were grasping for anything that might seem to work, because there was no real medical community. (And many things DID work, at least minimally.) Now, we should know better because we have access to so much knowledge and experimentation, as well as the product.

I was at my doctor today (for my myriad medical problems) and she wasn’t really impressed with this “outbreak”, either.

Good idea. But we need the facilities here, not just the drug stockpile.

There used to be a lot of drug production in Puerto Rico. Maybe they should encourage it there again. I think some laws were changed that hurt that business in PR.

The leadership in PR hate us.

They can go pound sand.

Build the new drug manufacturing facilities here in the continental US.
