Trump calls emergency meeting with top US health officials at the White House Wednesday
> That’s not something that can be compressed,
Either this is serious enough to bypass the layers of bureaucracy, or its not too awful and we can keep the current process.
If driving a loved one to the ER, would anyone cautiously obey every traffic regulation, or prioritize timely arrival?

On March 1 the first#covid patient was admitted to our hospital, 10 days later there are 12 confirmed patients and 5 in ICU. Besides the severe ARDS cases there also some with atypical presentaions Never seen anything that comes close to this and we are only just begun.
Not manufactured, nor panic.
The issue which is really concerning, is that 10% - 20% of those confirmed with it, need hospital care or admission to the ICU.
That’ll choke any medical system. Look at Italy.
Once it gets to that point, deaths skyrocket.
We need massive social distancing / quarantining, but that’s not likely to happen.
The number of deaths goes way up with age, maybe 15% of 80-year-olds will die.
I agree. Whole lock down for a month. It will cost a fortune but it will save many more dollars in the long run.

Some of cases are indeed outside of what expected. In addition to ARDS, have seen crazy paving pattern on CT, lobar pneumonia, and diarrhea as presenting complaint (with fever and respiratory symptoms though)
Paranoia will destroy ya.
I want to go by gunshot.

Italy is worse. Iran’s reporting is crap, so we can’t count on their numbers: but a number of their bigwigs, as well as the head of Hezbollah, reportedly have it or have died from it, so I don’t think we can believe their containment / mitigation are working very well.
It’s not bureaucracy..it’s the time needed to study the effects of a vaccine in a small sample population to see the health impact on the people vaccinated.
Even though I’m in the group that wants a vaccine TOMORROW if not sooner, there’s as I understand it at least no way to compress it beyond 12-18 months, or we could be doing more harm with the vaccination than good.
Dr. Fauchi just testified in Congress (live C-SPAN3 right now) that COVID19 death rate is about 1%, comapred with influenza at about 0.1%. Ten times more deadly.
That’s his current estimate based on current data. Offered here to help speculation on government reaction.
Balancing that, in China, we don’t know how many had it and were never tested / turned away / welded in their apartments / burned alive.
Yes, literally.
The media, the left and business interests are wagging the Corona dog. This is the gift to the left. The President is being boxed in.
> “They were literally at deaths door prior to getting that drug.”
You know the NEJM is a very respectable journal and I give you credit for providing its link.
But it’s too bad you don’t know how to read a scientific report.
No, the patient wasn’t “literally at deaths door”. Here’s what NEJM reports which you obviously did not read:
“On admission, the patient reported persistent dry cough and a 2-day history of nausea and vomiting; he reported that he had no shortness of breath or chest pain. Vital signs were within normal ranges. On physical examination, the patient was found to have dry mucous membranes. The remainder of the examination was generally unremarkable. After admission, the patient received supportive care, including 2 liters of normal saline and ondansetron for nausea.”
And no, the novel drug administered was not conclusive as an effective treatment.
“Given the radiographic findings, the decision to administer oxygen supplementation, the patients ongoing fevers, the persistent positive 2019-nCoV RNA at multiple sites, and published reports of the development of severe pneumonia3,4 at a period consistent with the development of radiographic pneumonia in this patient, clinicians pursued compassionate use of an investigational antiviral therapy. Treatment with intravenous remdesivir (a novel nucleotide analogue prodrug in development10,11) was initiated on the evening of day 7, and no adverse events were observed in association with the infusion.”
The most that was concluded regarding treatment with remdesivir for this one case is there were “no adverse events observed.”
Next time when you pull something off the internet, try reading it first and if you have trouble understanding or interpreting its content, feel free to provide the link to me and I will gladly provide feedback on its relevance and importance. Close the damn border and quarantine everyone coming from a foreign country. Period.
Remember the good old days when it was just da flu?
Based upon known cases with very little testing. As testing confirms more cases this death rate will come down.
Because idiots like you keep amping up the hysteria.
