New study shows sea level rise has been slow and a constant, pre-dating industrialization

For those who seek to panic the public into handing control of all economic activity to the state, the prospect of rising sea levels inundating coastal cities has been the most useful tool. By propagating the theory that your SUV, air conditioning and jet travel will drown New York and Miami, and submerge Pacific island out of existence, the warmists plan to extract trillions of dollars from advanced economies, and distribute them to cronies making solar cells, electric cars, windmills, and other expensive substitutes, and to the rulers of third world countries allegedly to be devastated (with “administrative costs” sticking to the fingers of the bureaucrats, of course).

It all makes intuitive sense, so that children like Greta Thunberg are easily convinced that their futures have been stolen because you want to enjoy a first world lifestyle. Melt the polar ice caps and we are doomed!

But in real life, the problems with the theory have been understood by critical minds such as AT contributor and distinguished scientist S. Fred Singer (see below). But now, a new study which found a proxy measure to trace sea levels back before the advent of industrialization has confirmed what Dr. Singer told us years ago: sea levels have been rising very gradually at a near-constant rate since the end of the last ice age. The Global Warming Policy Forum (hat tip: Climate Depot) reports on the study:

A little research for grrrrreta to take on:

1. Define the “correct” temperature range for the planet.

2. Define the “correct” humidity range for the planet.

3. Define the “correct” mean sea level for the planet.

4. Define the “correct” amount of precipitation for the planet.

5. Define the “correct” makeup of the atmosphere.

6. Define the “correct” amount of sea ice at the N/S poles.

7. Define/explain past glaciation and subsequent warming without any input from humans.

And, newsflash for the climageddonists out there. You would NOT like the alternative to the current natural cycle.

The glaciers have been melting, and the seas slowly rising, since the last Ice Age 12,000 years ago, and nothing puny man can do will stop it, until natural forces start us into the 6th Ice Age, which was the rage back in the 1970s.

The obvious answer is the “correct” values are the ones we have adapted to. The conservative answer is to leave things alone, don’t mess with it.

It is not unreasonable to challenge any reckless perturbation of the natural composition of the atmosphere. Alarmism and hysteria are unreasonable.

They should all take a mandatory freshman Geology course to understand climate change. Sea level has risen and fallen almost an infinite number of times since water has been on the surface.

I wonder how high the sea levels were when Greenland was in fact GREEN?

Wife told me today that some companies will not hire “climate change deniers”. Sounds like a whole of discrimination going on there to me. I’m sure the aclu will get right on that.

If the sea was rising since 1944, wouldnt the beaches at Normandy look a lot different, today?

Are they sure that Gilligan hasn’t been moving the measuring stick further out into the lagoon to catch lobsters?

Well, .06 inches per year is hardly noticeable.

At the peak of the last glaciation, sea levels were about 400 feet lower than they are today. Talk about sea level rise...

Archeologists have known this for years.

Geologists have known it far longer. But no one listens to the true experts. They only listen to self-appointed "climate scientists" who specialize in political junk science.
