Virginia Democrats agreed to a deal raising gas taxes in the state by a total of 10 cents over the next two years, a move party leadership said would give people "more time with their families."
.
.
.
"This is a historic agreement that will give Virginians more time with their families and less [time] stuck in traffic," Virginia House of Delegates speaker Eileen Filler-Corn (D.) said.

They will have to raise the tax much higher if they want to catch up to California and Pennsylvania.

When the price of oil decreases and with it the price of gasoline, the Democrats normal use that decrease to increase fuel tax so the new price of gasoline is about the level of the pre-decrease gasoline price. Tricky Democrats. Never give a sucker a break......

No big deal. Here in Alabama, our REPUBLICAN controlled House and Senate DID raise our gas taxes by 10 cent per gallon. Claimed it was for streets, roads and bridges. EVERY stinking time they raise the gas tax, this is their argument for doing so, roads and bridges. One thing is wrong. Our roads are still a mess, our bridges are falling down. Hell, a country, one lane dirt road is in better shape than our so called paved streets. We SHOULD have the damned best roads and bridges in the damned nation with all these roads and bridges taxes we keep paying, but they are still a shambles. I am sick of that damned excuse. Ole Fob James, an ex-gov of Alabama, raised the tax twice by a nickle and every time it was roads and bridges. That argument by them is 35 years old.

I rarely defend taxes, but I will point out that Pennsylvania has an unusual combination of conditions that makes highway maintenance a very expensive undertaking:

1. It has a lot of very old roads and bridges.

2. Winter weather across most of the state wreaks havoc on infrastructure conditions.

3. PennDOT is responsible for a large network of local roads that would be under county or municipal jurisdiction in almost any other state.

The insanity of these liberal/communist pukes knows no bounds. It’s a mental disorder to the nth degree.

Agreed, but nothing of substance ever seems to get done. NJ, OH and other surrounding states have many, but not all of those conditions/problems, and their roads/bridges etc are in far better shape.

PennDOT works on small stuff, and hires large sub-contractors to do the big projects, and they then stretch them way out beyond the allotted budget and project timeline.

Bottom line: taxpayers get screwed, while the PennDOT and subcontractors’ guys lean on shovels, drink coffee and brag about last night’s “bar adventure”, and make out just fine, financially.

No surprises, there...

Or out of work

Nice of them to provide a shining example of what happens when Dems take over. And just in time for the presidential election!

I agree. The Republicans and POTUS need to use Virginia as an example of why people need to vote for republicans in all races.

I was surprised that even after adding 10 cents VA will only be at about the middle of the pack in state fuel taxes.

You touched on the real problem that almost everyione else is ignoring..

True it makes drivers mad that it cost them $1.00 more for the 10 gallons they put in their car....but that is far from the real problem for people working by the hour or on a fixed salary.

Just think of how many trucks it takes to supply a big grocery store, or a Lowe's Home Improvement store.

A huge chain of truck from the seashore, the farms, the lumber mills, etc., are required.

It is not just the trucks that end up at the store, it is the trucks and service vehicles, whether cars or trucks, that are involved in every step of the manufacturing and supply chain.

Each of them are fuel thirsty. Fuel cost is a large part of their costs.

Do you think they swallow that cost? Most can not.

So you have the proverbial snowball effect on the guy who goes to the store to buy a pair of pants all the way to his better half who is buying the groceries.

And posted above, the tax is keyed to inflation. So when prices go up, the tax goes up again.

The only successful form of perpetual motion I know of.

The Federal Government directly subsidizes the New York City subway with more than $8 Billion of OUR MONEY collected in taxes every year, or more than $4,900 per year for each resident of Manhattan.

The same is true of every mass transit system in every city in the United States.

End the Federal subsidies. Let the cities pay for their own mass transit. Stop propping up the Progtard DildoCrat regimes that have been running these cities into the ground for more than 50 years.

Yeah, but Virginia will vote Dem again in 2020, and the state dem pols again in 2021.

If all the Tepubs can muster is 40% at best at the polls, it will be California of the east by 2024.

“The reason they are raising gas taxes is because they can.”

A simple explanation — and one that explains nearly everything the RATs do. Well stated, FRiend.

Perhaps if this keeps up Virginians may give them more time with their ancestors. The tree of freedom and all that.
