In December 2019, the first cases of coronavirus, or SARS-CoV-2, were reported in the Wuhan province of mainland China. Despite the efforts of the Chinese government and other agencies, the disease spread around the world. Public health officials reported cases on every continent. Coronavirus has become a global pandemic, and it has already impacted on the global economy. This, in turn, can radically affect our lives here in the United States. Gun owners remember how guns and ammo were hard to find because of the political climate at the time. What will happen if it’s a pandemic that affects our ammo supply? What gear will be affected? As we here at Ammoman are in the ammo business, we’ll be looking at how a pandemic might affect your access to ammo. How much ammo do you need for a SHTF* scenario where the supply chain breaks down? How might it affect your ability to buy ammo and enjoy the shooting sports? Let’s take a look.

Stored...at least 500 rounds per weapon. Target practice rounds not counted. Black powder weapons not counted.

S&W K-17 masterpiece

That's a K-22 Masterpiece. Later, when Smith & Wesson went to the model system, it became a Model 17.

I know, it's arcane.

I have a Model 17-4 built around 1974. Very nice gun. Taught all my kids to shoot with it.

Hence, the alarming number of boating accidents reported by members of this and many other forums.

Thanks, I was trying to remember what the right nomenclature was and that was the best I could do. They really were masterpieces.

My wife’s favorite gun. The K-22 is/and shoots beautifully. Momma is mean with it. Wish I had a few more. But my 27, 57, and 19 are nice too. Trick is, surviving to use them.

Define “really bad.” Like Chosin Reservoir or siege of Khe San?

......”Why millionaires and billionaires are buying bolt hole ranches out in Montana and Wyoming in the middle of no where”.....

Yep....I have a friend who sold his land here in PA and bought a ranch in Montana several years ago. Loves it out there. He also said it takes a specific type of woman who can adapt to the isolation of that lifestyle.

“I’m going to run out of luck before I run out of ammo.”

Most likely scenario, going solo.

To me, the pertinent question is: Are you part of a clan, now, with a defensible place, a plan and specific roles?

"And a good bayonet."

WTH??

If a bayonet is useful, you've already lost the battle! Can you reference how long it's been since a U.S. soldier killed an enemy with a bayonet fixed upon his rifle or carbine?

Does our military still issue bayonets? Try fitting an M16 bayonet on an M4. They both incorporate the same front sight with integral bayonet lug. The problem is that the sight on a M4 is several inches further behind its flash hider than an AR-15 or M16. An appropriate bayonet for the M4 has never been designed, manufactured or issued.

You would be better off with a good K-Bar. Lash it to a spear if you run out of ammo.

ImVho, the following is enough:

200 rounds 12 gauge #1 buckshot

500 rounds 9x19mm JHP

200 rounds 7.62x51mm

200 rounds 5.56NATO

1 brick of .22LRHP

Fwiw, our SHTF plan is, IF things get REALLY “out of hand”, is to “retreat inside of the fence” at our local Army post.
(The troops will NOT “turn away” a >70YO Army retiree & his lady.)

I guess the key word is dry.
I have some .308 to test next.
Found that and some .38 in his closet.
Didn’t find no guns though....
I think he lost them in a boating accident.

In a real SHTF incident I bet many of those who have a dozen ARs, 10,000 rounds of ammo and a hundred magazines will be dead before their first magazine is empty.

There’s a reason boating is a money pit, you keep shoveling money into. And it ain’t the fuel and upkeep..

They’re just darn expensive to replace. I no longer own any watercraft.
