In December 2019, the first cases of coronavirus, or SARS-CoV-2, were reported in the Wuhan province of mainland China. Despite the efforts of the Chinese government and other agencies, the disease spread around the world. Public health officials reported cases on every continent. Coronavirus has become a global pandemic, and it has already impacted on the global economy. This, in turn, can radically affect our lives here in the United States. Gun owners remember how guns and ammo were hard to find because of the political climate at the time. What will happen if its a pandemic that affects our ammo supply? What gear will be affected? As we here at Ammoman are in the ammo business, well be looking at how a pandemic might affect your access to ammo. How much ammo do you need for a SHTF* scenario where the supply chain breaks down? How might it affect your ability to buy ammo and enjoy the shooting sports? Lets take a look.

Those with an extra supply of guns, ammo and magazines have the wherewithal to arm other people they trust. Ya gotta plan ahead more than One magazine.
Im packing lots of snickers candy bars.
Didn’t Saddam Hussein have a bunch of candy bars when he was caught in his hidey hole?
I would say a hundred thousand rounds of 5.56 or.223 would be a start if you had a place to stash it. If the SHTF that 100k can go pretty quickly.
“OTOH, you could die early because you didnt have sufficient ammo.”
Personally I agree with the one armed deputy in Unforgiven who said “I just don’t want to get killed for lack of shootin back”
“Forming your own .577-450 brass”

One more than the person youre shooting at.
I don’t think there’s any correlation between how many flavors of rifles a guy owns and poor judgement in engaging in firefights. No one questions the guy with multiple bolt guns, why judge a guy with multiple AR’s? Semi-auto, Bolt Action, Lever Action, I say enjoy them all. I also don’t expect any disasters to turn into daily shootouts at the OK Corral. People watch too much Mad Max and Walking Dead.
True
Trustworthy, competent, and wealthy friends and relatives would be extremely valuable in a lengthy bad situation. By wealthy I mean "in possession of valuables". This could mean food, medical supplies, and other survival equipment.
Such people are not necessarily acquainted with firearms and may be invited despite that lack if they have other redeeming qualities.
Having a critical mass of people capable of guarding what you have and foraging for what you need would enhance survival chances immeasurably. You want other people to underestimate what you have and overestimate what you are willing to do in order to keep it.
Make sure that you are not the easy target. I recall from my time in the military that there was some value in having people think that you are just a little crazy.
That's what the buzzards are for, isn't it?
Two. You need two rounds. Three would be excessive.
Four? Oh My.
Frankly, given my years of service as a MP and Army Rangemaster, I suspect that the PMO will offer to arm me with a handgun & M4 so that I can “join the party”, as a member of base defense forces.
At worst, I believe that the PMO will take the privately-owned firearms & store them in the PMO’s arms room.

Drop them into the holding pen and go fire up the bandsaw and smoker.
My revolver takes eight big bullets. I figure if I need more than eight, I probably should start shooting.
So, the answer is 7.
When you reach the point where if you buy one more box you are going to have to start stacking it beside the house... you almost have enough.
I forgot the </s>
The real answer is ‘more than the opponent’.
The one I like is: ‘never enough...buy more’
Mainly former military will immediately recognize the truth of your last sentence. Took about three weeks on my first ship to put that into practice.
