Congregants of a historically black church in Selma, Alabama, turned their backs on Democrat presidential hopeful Mike Bloomberg on Sunday as he addressed them.
The protest, which remained silent and peaceful, took place as Bloomberg was giving a speech on the 55th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, a day when police attacked black citizens during a civil rights march in the town.
Several images shared to social media on Sunday showed both black and white voters standing with their backs turned to Bloomberg in Selmas Brown Chapel AME Church.

According to those who attended the event, former Georgia Democrat gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams sat behind Bloomberg during his speech.

Bloomberg, a former mayor of New York City, has had a history of questionable comments surrounding Americas black community.
In 2011, during the launch of his multimillion-dollar Young Mens Initiative, Bloomberg claimed black and Latino men dont know how to behave in the workplace.
During Bloombergs tenure as New York City mayor, nearly five million individuals, primarily young men of color, were stop-and-frisked.
Bloombergs resurfaced comments on stop-and-frisk came during a 2015 speech to the Aspen Institute, where he pushed the idea of cities taking the initiative on instituting and enforcing the gun bans.

Makes me happy to see this.
Excellent point
“But his speech was rambling & you can tell he wasn’t connecting in general. “
Why is he giving a campaign speech at a Sunday Worship Service? Last time we did anything political in our church buildings, not Sunday Worship, we were told that we cannot do it and keep our tax exempt status.
Also, why would any minister divert part of the time set aside for Christ to be used by politicians?
Still think Mini Mike can just buy the election?
Money will only get you so far.
He should have paid _more_....
Guess he can’t get his money back... :-)
I’d probably skip that service if a politician was giving a speech , thats not why I go to Church (even if it was someone I agreed with). The guy isn’t even Christian, not sure why he would even go there.
I always thought it was illegal to stump political in a church.
Only for Republicans.
I seriously doubt if those that actually turned their backs actually had anything at all to do with an assumed Bloomberg invitation or request.
If any organization I belonged to invited a person I strongly dislike in political terms, I would likely do the same.
It’s a soft way to tell management (in this case the clergy or others in charge of the church) it’s not acceptable and embarrassing them at the same time. Those that made the Bloomberg arrangements should have been aware of such consequences.
Just out of curiosity, FReepers, how many of you have had politicians speak in your church? I don’t mean to rent the space, but to actually speak to the congregation on a Sunday morning. Nothing like this ever happens in my church.
Bernie completely Blew Selma event off..Turning off Black voters as Bernie chases the money in California...What a shyster..
If that is true they should have gone to Bloomberg and got a better counter offer!
Illegal to campaign....Perhaps a generous donation to the church building fund helped smooth the way for an exception. Now called “guest pastor” Mike.
The crowd may have thought otherwise, though.

The man said get out of here I’ll tear you limb from limb.
I said you know, they refused Jesus, too. He said you’re not him.
Rude? RUDE? Are you kidding me? Whats rude is mini mike bragging about sending cops into black neighborhoods because thats where the crime is. Whats rude is Bloomberg thinking he can buy black votes. Whats rude is that pastor taking payment to allow this asswhole to speak at the pulpit.
Get a grip
Given the opportunity, I’d turn my back on him, too. Little know-it-all despot, drop DEAD.
I’d say it was rude because it blocked the view of the pulpit. Of course Mini-Mike needs to be humbled, all that wealth has gone to his head. He is running because of vanity. Trump ran out of love of country.
In a political sense, yes.
Bloomberg apologizing for stop-and-frisk was stupid and condescending. But I'm glad Trump and the Right are using Alinsky's Rules against Bloomberg by making him play by his own identity politics rule.
I’m sure his advisers are encouraging him. “Bloomy you can still win this thing!”
A dirty secret is that many Black folks really don’t like Jews and they positively detest really wealthy Jews.
