CBS2 has learned hundreds of people are being monitored for possible coronavirus exposure in New York state.
The Health Department says 700 people in the state have been asked to voluntarily self-isolate for two weeks.
That includes 83 people in Nassau County, 29 in Suffolk County and eight in Westchester.
It’s important to point out there are no confirmed cases here, and no one in New York City or in New Jersey is being monitored.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it’s not a matter of if, but when the coronavirus becomes a bigger issue in the United States.

This is surprising..how in the world did anyone even determine there were 700 people that needed to self-isolate - and why?
Some big gaps in the reporting here, but still..
Nothing changed, just a decision to grandstand.
The self isolation for people who’ve been to China or otherwise may have had opportunity for expisure has been going on for a month or more.
Just about every state is likely doing this. No secret. The VHD here in Virginia has been posting this info online for more than two weeks, maybe longer.
This reminds me of the 50’s and polio...............
That explains why when I took my husband to the ER two weeks ago they asked if we had been in NY or NJ in the last 22 days. I don’t think we are being told everything that is going on. If nobody has tested positive, why would a hospital in the backwoods of E. TN ask that question? It’s like they are feeding us information piecemeal.
I am wondering how long the virus can last on surfaces. The reason I Am asking is Amazon. A huge amount of inventory come here in the form of JIT(Just in Time) Inventory. I see the trucks everywhere and not knowing where the items come from and who is handling them makes me wonder how this can spread.
Are they knocking on doors?

Sounds like sales calls I get at work: “We’ve talked to your supervisor, Mr. B (that matches the public directory), and he thought it would be a good idea to talk to you about....”
We are really getting hounded by that stupid remark by the apparently untrained-in-public-relations person who said “it is not a case of if, but when”. That is the ONLY quote I see from the administration in every single article.
Wish everyone would just breathe and settle down!

Ummm..when did SEVEN HUNDRED PLUS people suddenly pop up as needing to self-isolate?! And how did anyone determine they NEEDED to self-isolate?

Here we go. There’s going to be forced quarantines like in China. I think this is overblown but the panic will cause shortages and delays. This sucks.

And that’s gonna be the problem IF this virus erupts and people begin getting infected- in schools, workplaces, people taking vacations, etc— people will refuse to isolate themselves- just like that nurse in Maine who was thought to have been exposed to Ebola who refused to be quarantined-

:-) Yes they will. LOL They asked if we had been out of the country in the last 30 days or in NY, NJ, or Chicago in the last 22 days. It didn’t make sense at the time.
