DHS Advises Americans To Store Two Weeks Of Food, Water For Coronavirus Prep
Breitbart ^ | 2-26-2020 | Bob Price

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security offers tips for planning for a possible pandemic in relation to the Coronavirus on a preparedness website.

Ready.gov now contains a topic titled, “Human Coronavirus — Know the facts about Coronavirus. Public health is everyone’s responsibility.” That website redirects to recommendations for how to prepare for a possible pandemic. DHS recommends storing a two-week supply of water and food. Officials also urge Americans to make sure they have all needed prescription medications filled for that time period.

Specifically, DHS recommends:

Before a Pandemic

•Store a two week supply of water and food.
•Periodically check your regular prescription drugs to ensure a continuous supply in your home.
•Have any nonprescription drugs and other health supplies on hand, including pain relievers, stomach remedies, cough and cold medicines, fluids with electrolytes, and vitamins.
•Get copies and maintain electronic versions of health records from doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and other sources and store them, for personal reference. Get help accessing electronic health records.
•Talk with family members and loved ones about how they would be cared for if they got sick, or what will be needed to care for them in your home.

If a pandemic should break out in the United States, officials urge the public to take steps to limit the spread of the germs to prevent infection. Tips include staying away from those who might be sick, frequent hand washing, and avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with your fingers.

DHS recommends:

During a Pandemic

Limit the Spread of Germs and Prevent Infection (emphasis below copied from website, not added by writer)
•Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
•When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.

two weeks food is nothing.

incubation time for this is much longer than a mere two weeks.

Out of precaution, I went out two days ago and finished off stocking up for
anywhere from three to six months.

I didn't want to wait until I had to do it, and everyone else was doing it too.
Plus I didn't want folks to look at me and accuse me of hoarding.
Things can get dicey.

We’d need to get out fro just milk and eggs and where we’re moving in a couple months, I can go right to the farm for both.

What’s troubling is that the Senate got a classified briefing about it yesterday morning and I have not seen one word about it other than the announcement. Why would you classify a public health briefing?

Just like Y2K all over again. Big jugs of water in the garage, sacks of rice and beans. Cans of tuna and spam. Time to hit up Academy for some water purifiers.

Maybe add some industrial respirators from Lowes to the shopping list this time.

I did wonder why the local Walmart Grocery started stocking those ‘feed 4 people for 48 hours’ packs a few weeks ago. Must have gotten some advance notice from the government.

Great post

I am with you... If nothing serious develops, we will have some extra supplies, no big deal.

If something wicked truly hits our country and the masses rush to the stores for supplies-it will be too late.

but not for the peeps who prepped.

Stay safe!

Yeah, especially when there are no grocery stores within at least a 20 minute drive.

And weather conditions aren’t always favorable.

You learn to live with the unexpected in snow country.

Speaking of which, WNY and the Watertown area in NY the Tug Hill Plateau, have blizzard warnings up for the weekend 2-4 feet of snow that is going to be driven into hard packed drifts. And COLD out, to boot.

“To wit: why is Trump basically saying be cool and we got this...yet liberal and NeverTrumper elements in America and the Deep State are chatting up a pandemic?”

Sadly, that is also the message on Fox. My bf called me, said he’d been watching Fox all day, was going out to purchase 6 months worth of food. I tried to calm him down with regular flu stats. SMH

Yup, I just buy a little extra every time I shop, and it’s still far less than the grocery carts I see stacked to overflowing on a normal weekend. So nobody can accuse me of hoarding, too.

We just bought a beautiful new chest freezer this past fall that it being slowly stocked very well.

Except for perishables, expiration dates mean nothing.

There’s a wealth of information about the expiration date farce that will come up with a google search.

I was wondering about that too. No leaks or nothing. THAT is rare.

My freezer is pretty full, but I bought rice and beans. I already had a
lot of stuff. Just did my regular shopping last week.

Ran into a guy in Costco and he saw what I was picking up. We started talking.

He and his wife were voicing the same thoughts I had. Rather be safe than
sorry.
