Putting aside the 2% there is supposedly about a 20% take rate or so of people that are in serious condition, e.g. ICU. Not sure if those same ICU stats will translate to the US as westerners seem to be less affected by it than asians.
But whatever it is — there is a large chunk of people that while they may not die will be in bad shape in bed and/or hospital for weeks if they get this thing.
As it is now you get sick you schedule an appointment and go your doctor’s office and then go to pharmacy and get meds. If this thing breaks out you can forget these routines. Our system is just not designed for pandemics. My guess you stay home and if its gets bad you go to ER where they will be overwhelmed.
Even putting aside fatalities this thing could disrupt our lives big time. However viruses and flu’s are seasonal. Best if this thing can be contained until summer and it will burn itself out.
The planet will be uninhabitable in around a decade because of global warming, so either way we’re done. Funny how life works out.

Abject fearmongering. This research scientist wants a perpetual funding gig, and he’s likely to get it. Let’s just see if between 3 and 5 *BILLION* people have the Covid-19 virus by the end of the year. Count me as a “denier” on this one.
In the meantime, we need some solid answers on whether this was an engineered virus or not. If it was, how was it released and by whom?

The fatality rate is probably higher than 2%... there are numerous factors. If you’re elderly, it is 15%. If you are a smoker... if you have any other underlying disease or are in poor health...
We don’t know who the survivors are... do they live by the sea? Are they urban dwellers? Non smokers? Does it affect the lungs of Han Chinese worse than others as some researchers have indicated?
I guess we’re going to find out.

She brings home the "crud" from her daycare school and gives it to my wife and I. We're both in our 70s. Turned in to bronchitis first and then got infected and turned into pneumonia for me. I was hospitalized twice. My wife once.
Some people are going to die from this new bug. But there are more than enough other flus that will and are already making people sick and killing them outside of this new bug.

So many different stories about where this originated. One thing has been a constant throughout history; nature has a way of protecting itself using plagues, famine, weather, and other things.
We are over populating this earth in some areas. Building higher apartment buildings to house more people isn’t the long-term answer. Nature may view us as an invading virus so it creates defenses to lessen the impact. If we are to continue to multiply at the rate we are then we must migrate off world to distant planets. This may be the wake up call needed to kick the space race into high gear.
Think of the opportunities! Leftists could all go to some barren planet while producers like conservatives go to a lush green planet. Muslims could have their very own desert planet too with lots of caves, sand, and rocks so they feel at home. Marxist/socialists/progressives/dems will need to find their own planet too. Preferably on the other side of the galaxy. Heck; even the LGBTQ contingent can find their own slice of the galactic pie.

First - the coronavirus does not survive in sunlight. When it is warmer out, people open windows, they spend less time indoors and schools are closed. There is more sunlight in the summer. Why are there no outbreaks in Africa, despite poor healthcare? Why are there no outbreaks in Australia, a popular vacation spot for Chinese? Its summer there. It’ll be warm in the northern hemisphere soon. The projections made by the very liberal Atlantic magazine assume that all thing will remain the same, which they won’t.
Second - all cases in the United States are controlled. It’ll be warm here before significant uncontrolled cases pop up. The Atlantic headline points out the YOU are going to get the virus. No, YOU won’t...people in Eurasia might. Another bad assumption that this article makes - that the virus is free to spread anywhere.
Even at 1% people WILL FREAK OUT and run through the streets screaming.
