Most cases are not life-threatening, which is also what makes the virus a historic challenge to contain
(big snip)
The Harvard epidemiology professor Marc Lipsitch is exacting in his diction, even for an epidemiologist. Twice in our conversation he started to say something, then paused and said, Actually, let me start again. So its striking when one of the points he wanted to get exactly right was this: I think the likely outcome is that it will ultimately not be containable.
Lipsitch predicts that, within the coming year, some 40 to 70 percent of people around the world will be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19. But, he clarifies emphatically, this does not mean that all will have severe illnesses...

Yep, and add to that the fact that the elderly and the immunity diminished population will be the hardest hit.
There is precisely ZERO evidence that this thing originated in or near an exotic meat market.
Now there's a conspiracy theory to amplify on.
Pete, thanks for the article on Vitamin D3 and elderberry.
We have used both successfully for flu. Knocked it out in two days.
Waiting for the news release.... the corona virus was caused by (gasp) CLIMATE CHANGE !!
Never waste a crisis.
Maybe Pres. Trump can use this to arm twist the Dims into abandoning their open borders/sanctuary cities stand.
There's a big difference between the communists who don't give a crap about any human life (except Xi and his circle) and the West where we just want to control the virus. If you believe you are about to be welded into your apartment you will flee and spread the virus.
It will get out.
It has already gotten out. The question is how effective we will be in controlling the outbreaks.
I’m pleased to see you brought that up. Likewise, Lenin said that the number of deaths in the successful establishment of communism would be limitless, with which the Bolsheviks cheerfully agreed. The Mensheviks, led by Martov who is still described by communists in the US as a ‘moderate’ suggested that 10 million might be enough.
Ayres is then nothing more or less than a ‘moderate’ communist.
I have nothing to worry about then. LOL
What’s the death rate for flu?
I’ve had corona before.
SPJNK.
True if 2% is even the right number. But it sounds like up to 25% of us will end up in the hospital with severe or critical illness. And probably a 3 week stay.
Hope everyone has good insurance.
“I remember when they said AIDS would decimate entire generations.”
I NEVER believed that and got nasty responses when I said as much (in the early 90s). It was TOTAL BULL SHIITE, designed to get the normal community to blow off trying to figure out other viruses and cancer...and it worked.
The reason I never believed it was that the vast majority of men don’t go exchanging bodily fluids with other men, nor was blood transfusions a significant concern (by then), as they had screening and testing in place.
Early on, yes, there were a lot of questions early on...but pretty much the only people with AIDS were the ‘bathhouse types’ and hemophiliacs...virtually no one else.
With this...spend 15 minutes in a taxi with a vector and you may well get it. And LOTS of people do things like that.
I’m old with asthma and diabetes and probably go down quick from it.
But it’s been a good ride.
Any good stock tips on casket makers and/or funeral services?
They relapse later? I didn’t know that. I read they were getting re-infected and more ill the second time around.
What a Satanic virus!
Did they recently overturn that prohibition on donating blood as discriminatory?
We won't control the outbreaks. It will continue to spread until 40-70% of the world have been infected. It's too late and this is the pandemic we have feared.
Everything about this sounds like a 'perfect storm' event. It is airborne and does not even need to be inhaled, but merely drift into your eyes... you can't stop this thing now.
I hope I am very wrong about this, but every 100 years or so, a pandemic comes along, this is it.
Jesus is coming!
