Most cases are not life-threatening, which is also what makes the virus a historic challenge to contain
(big snip)
The Harvard epidemiology professor Marc Lipsitch is exacting in his diction, even for an epidemiologist. Twice in our conversation he started to say something, then paused and said, Actually, let me start again. So its striking when one of the points he wanted to get exactly right was this: I think the likely outcome is that it will ultimately not be containable.
Lipsitch predicts that, within the coming year, some 40 to 70 percent of people around the world will be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19. But, he clarifies emphatically, this does not mean that all will have severe illnesses...

If you look at the Spanish Flu, young healthy adults were hit very hard. It is generally attributed to cytokine storm, in which the immune system attacks so vigorously that the patient dies of extreme inflammatory processes. I have seen reports that this is a factor in Covid19 as well. While elderly are at risk, this may not be a walk in the park for some of our young adults either. It is a good time for all of us to be getting enough rest, eating a healthy diet and staying away from sick people.
If Nonnie said the Elderberry works for flu it probably does.
In this case an Isreali Virologist investigated it and developed a syrup from it. You can probably buy it at a drugstore. I think That NatureWay Sambacol has the higest amount of active ingrediant. (5 grams per 2 teaspoons.) I mix it with grapejuice and have it at breakfast.
It does not kill the flu virus. It works by inhibiting its ability to replicate.
According to the WHO daily sit rep the current death rate is 3.4% in China and 2.4% elsewhere.
If no vacine is developed soon alot of people will die.
Likely to be as defining as SARS, Swine Flu, Bird Flu, etc.
Which is to say, the only thing it will define is hyperbolic, fear-mongering b.s.
Six months from now, everyones going to be saying Corona what?
It just so happens that I know an American-trained Chinese-American MD (She is an internist, who is married to a Chinese businessman.), who now resides/practices in Shanghai.
Her comment was that IF the current death rate from COVID-19 remains about the same as “current trends” indicate, 40% MORE people in Mainland China will die each month from the ordinary/usual Winter FLU, than will from the current “Chrono Virus” epidemic.
(This is NOT to say that the Covid-19 virus is NOT deadly to SOME patients but simply to point out that Dr. Li believes that the current “media feeding frenzy” is MUCH OVERBLOWN “to sell soap”.)
yours, TMN78247
the coronavirus like the sars virusis genetically disposed to infect chinese
instead of personally insulting me why not look it up
Bunch of doctors and nurses in China, young and in good health, have been killed by this. Presumably as medical personnel on the front lines, they got the best healthcare that could be provided.
I have been watching YouTube videos of an emergency nurse in Wuhan who has it, her husband is making close to daily videos of what she has been going through. She has had it for more than 3 weeks and is still in the hospital although she is slowly getting better.
....
And the regular flu strains have done the same thing. Your point?
Doesn’t explain everything, but could’ve been the first few (unrecorded) cases...
“Pinging Captain Trips..”
This is the first thing I thought about. Chinese Lab escape.
Not that I automatically believe someone from an elite university, but Marc Lipsitch is a Harvard epidemiology professor.
What are your credentials?
His projection is far different than yours of ‘whistling past the graveyard’.
Is everyone wearing a biohazard suit to protect against the flu?
Note to self: make another beer run before duct-taping all the doors and windows shut.........
The CDC report that 14,000 people have died and 250K have been hospitalized during the 2019-2020 flu season from influenza B and influenza A in the U.S. Where is the hysteria over this? Over 8000 people have died from the flu in the US just in 2020, but no concern from the Coronavirus groupies about these numbers.
And you folks have balls to lecture those of us who are a bit skeptical about Coronavirus as “whistling past the graveyard”?
Pfft
Some of the diseases of the end times will kill up 1/4 of the population.p
Lot more long term sickness though from lingering health issues.
