Former Deputy National Security Adviser K.T. McFarland said Friday that the FBI -- under the purview of the Mueller investigation -- tried to set up her up in a "perjury trap."
Appearing on "Fox & Friends" with host Brian Kilmeade, McFarland -- who served under former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn -- explained that her life "went to hell" at the beginning of the Russia probe because investigators were convinced she was President Trump's to the Russians.
"The FBI showed up at my house unannounced. I was all by myself. They come in and I said, 'Do I need a lawyer for anything? I have never met with any Russians. I have never dealt with any Russians,'" she explained.
The agents said that while they couldn't tell her not to get a lawyer, they just wanted a "little bit of information" to help them with the investigation.
"So, I naively went along with it. The whole time they were setting me up for a perjury trap," she told Kilmeade. "Because Brian, they seized all of my files, my documents, text messages, cell phones from the period I was in government...They had control of them. They wouldn't let me have control of them."
However, the search turned out to be fruitless for all parties involved.
"They thought they could pressure me to say, 'Well, I lied in one of my early talks with you guys when I didn't have access to my information,'" she mused.
McFarland added that she was questioned about a 90-minute period spent in the president's Mar-a-Lago Club in which she didn't have any recorded correspondence or conversation in her phone records. That's when, McFarland said, they asked her whether that was the time she met with Trump to get marching orders.

Should have been followed with "I do not answer questions from law enforcement, agents of the state or the press, without the presence of my attorney. If you wish to schedule an interview, we can do so at my attorney's office were the entire encounter will be video recorded."
Yes, but it will never happen. They will probably try to overthrow the entire government if any such attempt was made. Schumer had a point there.

Maybe I am exploiting hindsight, but I can’t get over how Trump brought in so many naïve, fresh off the cabbage truck, suckers into national security positions. Who was the White House Counsel who failed to train all staff never to answer questions without notifying his office first? If a team of Russian spies had walked in, said they were from the National Archives, and give us all your most secret files like your predecessors did, these folks would have probably done it.
Seriously, indeed! He is insufferable anymore. I get sick of hearing the same crap coming out of his mouth. And while I’m at it, it’s disgusting how he’ll be conversing with a guest on the radio, and then break mid-stride to do some damn commercial. I get so sick of him, Gallagher, Hewitt, even Rush at times, breaking/pivot mid-stride to add a commercial.

IMO, just give name and address, verify anything they show you as far as your ID goes and then say I am not answering further questions, unless you want to run up a huge legal bill. DO NOT TAKE THE FIFTH AMENDMENT. Your taking it CAN be used in a grand jury to establish suspicion of guilt. It cannot be used at trial but if you don’t open your mouth they cannot have a perjury trap unless you lie about your ID.
If they give you that song and dance about establishing a few facts, say if they are facts then you have what you need already. If you get indicted for something, you would have been indicted anyway so why give them more ammo??

Those at the center hired their own lawyers rather than use the company’s ones which made management at HQ very unhappy.
Probably, but when push comes to shove later, whom is that attorney representing, the worker or the company. I’ve seen company paid attorneys roll over on employees when cutting the final deals.
