Sen. Tom Cotton stands by startling theory on coronavirus origins: 'We need to be open to all possibilities'
Fox News ^

Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark. stood by his earlier suggestion that the deadly coronavirus may have originated in a high-security biochemical lab in Wuhan, China, telling "The Story" Tuesday that we "need to be open to all possibilities" in exploring the origins of the outbreak that has sickened more than 75,000 people around the world.

When host Martha MacCallum pressed the Senator on his startling and unverified claim, Cotton cited a study published by Chinese scientists in The Lancet, which he called a "respected international science journal."

"I'm suggesting we need to be open to all possibilities and we need to demand that China open up and be transparent so a team of international experts can figure out exactly where this virus originated," Cotton said.

He also brought up the "questions" surrounding the biosafety level 4 "super laboratory" in Wuhan, the city where the virus is believed to have originated.

"We know it didn't originate in the Wuhan food market based on the study of Chinese scientists ... I'm not saying where it started, I don't know. We don't know because the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) won't open up to international experts," Cotton said. "That's what we need to do so they can get to the bottom of where the virus originated and hopefully can effect a diagnostic test and vaccine for it."

He says that this is not his theory. He still thinks its most likely a natural origin. But he says that we should look at the possibility. I don’t see how you can dispute that.

He is 100% correct, there have been reports out of China and Israel about it.

I’m still wondering, and startled, why would they send the “possibly infected” people to military bases? Biological attack?

Chinese people have been discussing this as a possibility on Wechat, the Chinese version of Facebook/Instagram, for at least a week.

At least those Chinese people who are in America and other free countries. Discussing this in China can get you in a lot of trouble.

What did the Lancet story say? That is a respected journal, not a zerohedge thing.

It is hard to believe that the presence of a super-high-tech biological research laboratory that examines and modifies just such kinds of virus is merely a star-crossed coincidence with an unrelated naturally-caused emergence of the highly infectuous fatal disease in the same location, governed by the same kind of secretive authorities.

One's faith in a random juncture of the two factors comes under a rather severe strain.

Because military bases are often isolated and have an easily enforced perimeter, they have nuclear-bio-chem isolation facilities and medical staff specifically trained for this sort of thing?

Why is this a “startling theory”? It has been rumored for months that the Chinese created it in a lab.

"When host Martha MacCallum pressed the Senator on his startling and unverified claim, Cotton cited a study published by Chinese scientists in The Lancet, which he called a "respected international science journal.""

All Cotton said more or less was this possibility needs to be looked at.
Any bets on how long before the media starts using the term "debunked" in place of the word "unverified"?

I’m the other way around - I am thinking that it *is* something that escaped from a Chinese lab (their utterly panicked reaction and rolling first and second line troops instead of reserves tells me escape over deliberate release), but in all the things published that I’ve read so far I have found no smoking gun indicating that it absolutely is lab-grown. Lots of coincidences that could be added up to that, but nothing that I can point to and say absolutely is an indicator that it could not be anything other than a lab creation. I am keeping my mind open as well, and also would like to see exactly what the heck was going on in their labs. Preferably by teleoperated remote and not in person.

Why is this a “startling theory”?

It's startling because the MSM considers it "racist" to suggest that a China, run by a Communist Party, might not be capable of maintaining the needed protocols to run a facility like this. All peoples are equal in talents and abilities (expect white men, who cheat and lie and steal to take all the top positions), remember? /s

I know most people think it would never happen here, but it has - multiple times - a few of them not exactly accidental. While I’m not a bioweapons expert by any means, some of my friends are and, to a person, they’re completely convinced that 2019-nCoV is a bioweapon. As one of them said, “If I were going to design a weaponized virus, it would behave just like the coronavirus.”

Anything that goes against the media’s Narrative is immediately “unverified”, “startling” and “debunked”.

There is no longer any attempt at News. There is only propaganda.

You know what is almost as insufferable as some liberal, Ivy League know it all?

Yeah, you guessed it!

Seriously, everyone in Arkansas must feel so safe knowing they have a Senator who learned all about Science, Technology, Viruses and stuff at Law School. That boy’s so smart he should just make all decisions, it ain’t hard, he’s smart!

Well, maybe not as smart as Sen. Cruz — he went to TWO Ivy League schools! It makes mah brain hurt, just thinking how smart he must be... Gosh.
