Thanks to Second Amendment supporters around the Commonwealth ceaselessly voicing their opposition to a sweeping gun ban, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted 10-5 to reject House Bill 961 on February 17th. Bloomberg’s House majority in the General Assembly is not going to deliver their most coveted agenda item to their billionaire master.
House Bill 961 was a comprehensive ban on many commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms, suppressors, and standard capacity magazines. The original bill sought to impose a licensing and registration scheme for citizens who wish to keep affected firearms they lawfully owned prior to the ban, with felony penalties for noncompliance. It also broadly banned any part that could be used to change a firearm into a banned configuration. While the House Public Safety Committee amended the bill to allow citizens to keep currently owned firearms and suppressors, there was no option for citizens to keep their lawfully acquired magazines with capacities greater than twelve rounds, forcing millions of Virginians to dispose of their property, become a criminal, or surrender them to the government.

His name is Dan Helmer and he is my Delegate in Virginia and the co-sponsor of HB961. I did all I could to get Tim Hugo relected but the illegal and muslim immigrants that were forced upon us by leftist democrats voted overwhelmingly for the anti-2nd amendment Dan Helmer.

Relax. The Virginia state elections are in 2021. There is a lot of blowback from the last election. The Dems have tried gun-control, LGBTQ, the ERA and the National Popular Vote laws. A lot of people in Virginia are extremely upset. This is not what they voted for in 2019. I am expecting that the GOP will retake the legislature in 2021. And, they will repeal a lot of these laws.
Bloomberg, who enabled this Democrat takeover of Virginia, and who wants to be President, should go on notice.

I'd expect the bill with some cosmetic changes and a few meaningless "compromises*" to be re-filed no later than next year's legislative session if not before.
* Compromise as defined by anti-gunners: "We're going to take all of your guns." We reply, "You can't do that. this is the USA." they reply, "OK we'll only take some of them this time," but before the ink is dry on the first round, we'll be screaming about "loopholes" in the law and come for the rest. Notice what we get from any compromise with anti-gunners - NOTHING
