A Royal Caribbean cruise ship scheduled to dock in Bayonne, New Jersey, early Friday has at least a dozen Chinese nationals on board in isolation who will be tested for coronavirus, a source familiar with the ship said.
Some of the passengers, who are returning from the Bahamas on the ship, have pulmonary issues, according to the source.

Two disturbing things - Chinese in isolation & people who have pulmonary issues... Do these groups overlap? Do the reporters mean NEW lung issues, or chronic? Article not clear.
Also wish this ship were not off the East Coast of the USA...

Lots and lots of illegal Chinese in the New York metro area. I don’t think it will take a cruise ship to set off an explosion of Wu-flu there.

“Lots and lots of illegal Chinese”
Does one’s immigration status bear on the virulence of the disease?

No, but it does imply that one might have snuck past any safeguards that were in place.

Because many international treaties to which we (and most other countries) are signatories not just allow it, but require it.
Ships with illness aboard are to be allowed to dock in a port able to handle them, *within* quarantine procedures and isolated from other shipping as best possible. Treatment and supplies are to be given to the ship within said isolation and quarantine protocols.
Humanity used to not do this and forced the ships to sail on. Turns out it’s better to pull the ship into an isolated dock in harbor and quarantine it - can you guess why?

The reported capacity of the Anthem of the Seas is 4,172 passengers. Add about another 900 or so for crew.

The last time I was in Bayonne, many decades ago, it was a crime ridden shithole. I understand that it has cleaned up a bit but if I were the passengers on that ship, I would demand that they be kept away from the city itself. Might still be some of that nasty old stuff hanging around, worst than the coronavirus.
