Horowitz: NY crime skyrockets, shootings up 60%, following prison reduction agenda

No ordinary citizen can legally carry a gun in New York City, yet shootings are up 59.6 percent over this time last year. On Sunday, a pregnant woman was shot while sitting in her own car in front of her home in Queens. This is becoming the new normal in New York after the memo has gone out to criminals in the city that politicians fear growing the prison population more than they fear crime.

According to NYPD crime data, in addition to the 59.6 percent spike in shootings over this time last year, robberies increased 32.8 percent and grand larceny auto crimes were up a whopping 62.8 percent. Burglaries rose by 17 percent. This is just for the first 26 days of 2020.

What gives? According to NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea, it’s no mystery. It’s all about New York’s law abolishing bail. “If you let out individuals that commit a lot of crime, that’s precision policing in reverse and we’re seeing the effects in a very quick time,” Shea said at a press conference last Friday. He decried the undeniable “correlation” between the rise in crime and the jail and prison “populations dropping significantly.”

This is the other side of the criminal justice equation that politicians, including country club Republicans, refuse to recognize. As they are focused like a laser beam on reducing the prison population, they are ignoring the human nature of violent criminals. These criminals simply see no deterrent against their destructive behavior, and for good reason. Thus, whatever form of crime it is they like to engage in, they will continue repeating it until they are locked up. One criminal in Staten Island, who had a history of vehicle theft, was arrested for breaking into vehicles three times in three weeks. He was released every time!

How much are true repeaters and how much is due to lax policing policies instituted under DeBlasio

Republicans and Giuliani showed NY that if you prosecute the small criminals, they cannot commit the big crimes....and the streets get better.

Democrats and Cuomo showed that if you let the small criminals off with a slap on the wrist, your big crimes increase...and the streets turn to feces.

Here endeth the lesson

While there might be some positives to the criminal justice reform bill, the bottom line is it ends up putting criminals back out on the street.

Issuing career criminals get-out-of-jail-free cards. If you wrote a novel based around that you’d never be able to sell it because nobody sane would believe it.

I have several Ultra Liberal co-workers from NYC - they all say everything is fine. The crime reports are overblown by the “right Wing” media to damage NYC. No NYC crime reports on CNN or MSNBC...

I'm curious the number of crimes related to each category, prison releases and the new no-bail nonsense.

I knew there was the potential for elevated crime related to the releases from prison.

I'd like to think people took advantage of that for a good outcome, but reality being what it is, I suspected we'd see some downside too.

Now, there is this angle in defense of Trump. I believe he has only been arranging the release of non-violent criminals. That should not be a cause for a 59.6% increase in shootings.

IMO < anything that makes it look like your going soft on crime is an open invitation for criminals to be emboldened to commit crime.

Police boss:“If you let out individuals that commit a lot of crime, that’s precision policing in reverse and we’re seeing the effects in a very quick time,” Shea said at a press conference last Friday. He decried the undeniable “correlation” between the rise in crime and the jail and prison “populations dropping significantly.”

Some years ago (1980s and 90s) the Dems protested the GOP led mandatory sentencing by judges which replaced the old discretionary minimums and some plea bargaining, mostly put in place by GOP led state legislatures.

Dems refused to acknowledge that significant reductions in crime rates were trending. One chief then said “It’s because the guys who commit many crimes are in prison now.”

Please note that Soros had devoted a fortune to the nominations and campaigns of local district attorneys on the far left side. Chaos in their regions will reign.

A recent story said:Soros has spent on district attorney campaigns in Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico and Texas through a network of state-level super PACs and a national “527” unlimited-money group, each named a variation on “Safety and Justice.” (Soros has also funded a federal super PAC

This is insanity. I worked in a jail system for 6 weeks early in my career while I was between jobs. After about 2 weeks the distinction between the inmates and the staff began to blur. Some of these prison reform ideas rely on jail administrators to decide who gets released. Ask yourself - why would someone work in the jail system long enough to become an administrator? Better yet, ask Jeffrey Epstein...
