Villages around the epicentre of China's coronavirus outbreak are flocking to prevent residents from the largely quarantined Hubei Province from fleeing into their land, it has emerged.

Videos and pictures circulating on social media purport to show frightened locals living near the border of Hubei resorting to various methods - including destroying roads and using weapon-wielding guards - in a desperate bid to stop people escaping from the other side.

Six villages in the province of Hebei, which does not adjoin virus-ravaged Hubei, even started to build brick walls to barricade themselves and stop outsiders, a report revealed yesterday.

Yeah, something is strange.

I was looking at the magazine. Maybe it’s a 5.45 mm (the modern ChiCom round — for AK-74 (yes, 74, not 47).

But, anyway, looks short (or rather, “not wide”), almost a carbine-type round — if real.

Here is an old illustration of the Plague of London, and the citizens trying to flee, but forced back by armed guards to the right of the illustration.

When I first found the Chen guy’s acct he had like 600 followers. The news account had like 300.

If he’s still in China, I hope he doesn’t get caught. Ditto anyone sending him real videos from there.

One and the same. Mean-looking weapon used against men in armor.

And let's not forget, for those of you keeping score at home, that one of the most revered authorities in America on this saga, Dr Tom Inglesby from Johns Hopkins, had this nugget of wisdom on the do's and don't's in a pandemic:

DON’T grab a gun.

Inglesby: If we all end up in our homes with guns, then nothing will work. We won’t be able to get anything to anyone. You basically would have to imagine scenes of complete lawlessness and a complete breakdown of social order.

My hope and my sense of what the science says is that that is not typically how human beings react in emergencies. There obviously is going to be a wide variety of responses, but I think in general there are going to be a lot more good responses than bad. So I’d say that if we get to that point in a pandemic, things have completely broken down and we have all sorts of [other problems] that I don’t think a gun’s going to help with.

You know things are serious when the Chinese rural peasants bring out the pole-axes.

I’ve heard about pole-axes but never seen one.

I strive to learn something every day. Thank you!

That’s what local militias look like.

At least they organized and cordoned their neighborhood. If anyone other than a cult did this in the US, the government would come down on them like a ton of bricks.

Cults are tolerated, with some exceptions (Waco’d David Koresh comes to mind).

Gotta love the doctors wearing obviously incomplete protection.

If this was real, the western countries wouldn’t be shutting down air travel to/from china.

Neither peasant nor elite revolts are unusual in China. In the 2200 years since the Chinese empire was hacked out of the northeast Asian land mass, three dynasties lasting ~800 years, so far, have been founded by peasant revolts - the Han, the Ming and the current Red dynasty. Literally dozens of peasant rebels came within a whisker of either replacing the regimes they fought, or becoming the proximate causes of their demise. Three of the most notable ones were:

Compared to them, Spartacus was a rank amateur.

The health ministry has so far confirmed seven cases of the virus in Japan, including one man who had not travelled to China.

“That’s not a spear - that’s a big honking halberd.”

Then no need for flimsy face masks. How long does the virus live undetected in the body only to pop out later?

Looks like it!

I’ve read elsewhere that the proximate cause of at least some of these were Grand Solar Minimums affecting food production/distribution.
