There was an unintended moment of levity during a break at the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump on Tuesday.
Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal, one of the designated "spin doctors" sent to the microphones to clean up any damage to the Democrats' message caused by President Trump's impeachment attorneys, dropped an unintentional truth bomb during a media interview.
C-SPAN broke away from the proceedings in time to hear Blumenthal say this about the Trump defense lawyers:
It was a fact-free summation of a case bereft of evidence – we need the evidence. We need the witnesses and documents... They may have the votes at this moment, but I hope my colleagues will look themselves in the mirror ... [W]hat we want is the truth, not some quid pro quo on the witnesses...

It is NOT for the Senate to add witnesses that were not called in the House investigation. That is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. The Senate is the jury for the House Articles brought to them and the “case” they make for the Articles. The JURY, the Senate is NOT ever to CALL additional witnesses which serves the opposition in the case, whether the Senate calling for it is bipartisan or not. IT is simply NOT correct for the Senate to call witnesses for the House’s case, even if it supplants the House’s leadership decision to deny the President due process as required by our Constitution.
Take the vote on what has been presented, and defended against, and indeed on what has been purported to be “impeachable offenses” WHICH ARE NOT AND NEVER COULD BE. The Senate should be the balance to all this chicanery by lunatics and insane House leadership.

There’s nothing to “LOL” about. They’re pushing ahead with this sh*t charade full-steam, Mitt Romney is helping them, and McConnel didn’t slam the door on their faces as he should have.

If a Republican senator had said this during Slick Willie’s impeachment trial, that video would have been played 24/7 on the leftist media “news” shows. When the Demonicrats admit their charges contain nothing but flatulence, you’ll never hear about it from the fifth-column media.
There IS enough evidence. Subpoena Michael Atkinson’s testimony or charge Adam Schiff with obstruction of justice for hiding it.
I think it’s very good that more witnesses are wanted. It says the House case was inadequate. It says they don’t have enough evidence to convict Trump of anything. It means there are reasonable doubts.
They need to be pounding on Schitt for answers as to why his investigation is so very lacking. They also need to be asking him why he’s withholding 179 pages of restimony from a witness he did interrogate.
The Senate can only work with what they’ve been given.
This reminds me of the abusive man who beats his wife for taking too long to go shopping, and insisting she’s having an affair. After all, she was gone a long time! There’s the proof! Gone too long.
The case one makes in their head rarely is made in reality. Schitt decided Trump was cheating and that the phone call had a secret messege attached and the dela tut ed funds were proof.
He’s got to be miserable to live with.
Save the upper case UNCONSTITUTIONAL crap. This should have never been heard in the first place! If Trump did everything the democraps accuse him of, none of it is against the law! This is that asshole McConnells fault. He needs to go? He is tied up for weeks, time to challenge him. Run on the Trump party and watch the Republican vote dry up!
