U.S. health officials are currently monitoring 110 people across 26 states for the coronavirus, including the five patients who contracted the deadly infection in China and brought it back to America.
The disease, which has killed at least 81 people in China and sickened more than 2,800 worldwide, isnt spreading within the community in the U.S. and the risk to the public right now is still considered low, Dr. Nancy Messonnier, the director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, told reporters on a conference call Monday.
We understand that many people in the United States are worried about this virus and how it will affect Americans, Messonnier said. Every day we learn more, every day we assess to see if our guidance or our response can be improved.
The number of patients under investigation in the U.S. has almost doubled from the 63 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said were under surveillance on Thursday. The CDC says 32 people have tested negative for the virus.
While that number is 110, we are certainly prioritizing based on [patients under investigation] that might be at higher risk, Messonnier said.
The CDC confirmed Sunday a fifth U.S. case of the virus a patient in Maricopa County, Arizona who recently traveled to Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the diseases outbreak and where the majority of cases have been reported.
Messonnier said the CDC has screened roughly 2,400 people flying from Wuhan to five major U.S. airports and is considering expanding its screening. The agency increased its travel warning for all of China, asking people traveling to practice enhanced precautions.
This outbreak is unfolding rapidly and we are rapidly looking at how that impacts our posture at the border. Were certainly considering broadening of that screening, she said.

Stop all incoming people who have been in China, or quarantine them all upon arrival.Stop AND quarantine. What else can you do? EIther release them and tell them to be careful, which is cosmically stupid, or deport them by sending them back on the flight on which they came. Which, is highly unsatisfactory for American citizens and their relatives.

Check out NAC (N-acetylcysteine) and read
this ....
The pervesre thing about The Cytokine Storm is this: the stronger your immune system is, the stronger the cytokine reaction. During the 1918 Spanish Flu outbreak, the majority of people who died were between the ages of 20 and 40 years old. To be sure, death rates from the Spanish flu were higher than normal among all ages. But the people who beared the biggest brunt of the flu outbreak were in the prime of their lives healthwise.
So the challenge as a medical practitioner has nothing whatsoever to do with the flu virus. The question if you are trying to save the life of a patient isn't "How do get rid of the virus?" --it's "How do I stop the body's immune system from overreacting to the virus?"
And the answer to the second question is simple: give the patient sugar water.
"Cell mediated immunity is depressed by 50% for 120 minutes after sugar ingestion (75 grams). A 100g portion of sugar can significantly reduce the capacity of white blood cells to engulf bacteria. Maximum immune suppression occurs one to two hours after ingestion and remains suppressed for up to five hours after feeding... A 100g portion of sugar can significantly reduce the capacity of white blood cells to engulf bacteria. Maximum immune suppression occurs one to two hours after ingestion and remains suppressed for up to five hours after feeding." --Dr. Noel Peterson
Regarding this process, the book, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A Treatment Guide, relates, "In patients experiencing the effects of excess cytokine production, downregulation of immune system chemicals can provide tremendous relief."
Once ckytokine produced has been slowed the next step is to give the patient magnesium chloride, zinc, vitamin C.. Not only is magnesium chloride cheaper than any of the anti-virals outthere, it actually works in treating the flu. It's over the counter, you don't need a prescription to get it.
And you have the added bonus of being able to supplement your diet with it NOW, to strengthen your immune system against viral infection.

My original statement: “Unfortunately historically, quarantines have never worked. At best they slow down the progression allowing time for resources to be brought to bare, but they have never proven successful in eliminating the spread.”
Which was in response to this from TheTimeofMan: “Quarantine is what works.
Governments can either greatly inconvenience an extremely small number - or take a small risk that millions will die.
Everyone coming from China should have gone into forced (locked in) quarantine from day one.
One of these years one of these viruses is going to kill 20% of the planet.”
I never said don’t do quarantines. My point was that they only slow the spread they do not eliminate it.

So are you trying to harm Trump’s electoral chances? Signs about Coronavirus at rallies? Really? I question Trump’s seemingly lack of interest in this, but hope he has a good reason.
Thanks for nothing newbie.

I know next to nothing about the cytokine storm.
When it happened in our family we did not know of this term. In fact, it was not used much in the scientific community at that time.
You basically are looking to calm your immune response
I use Vitamin D and Turmeric.

That's more than a half cup of sugar. Just put a feed bag o' sugar on the patient. That'll do it! ;D

Ran across a twitter interaction of micro-biologist discussing the latest preprints. Some find the reported information suggests that the first infections might have actually occurred as early as October. They propose to sample the flu cases treated back to that time for the evidence to better establish the actual evolution of the outbreak. Look for Dr. Kevin Purcell on Twitter.

A few days ago, the spokesperson for the TX monitored cases said the patients who were SELF isolated (pinky swore they they’d self isolate) “shouldn’t spend too much time in crowds.” Say, WHAT?!?

that the incubation period can be from 7 to 10 days.
Now up to 14 days with no overt signs but contagious. Cover eyes and ears.

Wusan boasts a Level 4 Bio-Lab which is actually a covert bio weapons lab ... This may not be an ordinary virus that mutated on its own ... PS: there is now a <14% mortality rate (per a study - mentioned on another thread). The Chinese could be looking at near 10 million dead in the quarantined area alone.
