Mongolia has closed from Monday until Mar. 2 all universities and educational institutes to contain the spread of a deadly coronavirus sweeping China, state media Montsame said, citing a cabinet meeting.
It has also closed border crossings for auto vehicles and pedestrian traffic, from Monday, and called for all public gatherings to be cancelled.

Mongolians are dominating sumo wrestling now.
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Same here, I would love to see it.
Hope they can stay healthy.
It aids the spread as people stay indoors...with other people.
BINGO
We'll be able to get honest data, and a clearer sense of actions being taken that will indicate how screwed we are.
When I took a tour of Mongolia three years ago, my guide was a graduate of a university in Ulaan Batar who had majored in English. I was the first native speaker of English that she had ever encountered.
I visited three years ago. I took a 12 day tour around the country with a driver and guide. It was October, past the tourist season, so only saw a handful of other tourists.
The trip was amazing. Although cold, we went hiking, saw some historic sites, saw a Google streetview truck and photographer in a couple of the sites, saw wild horses... I’d love to go back.
What do they learn? Yak husbandry?
How was his English? The leader of our group spoke fluent Russianl, English and Mongolian. Her English was remarkale for only having spent a couple of months in England. Truly amazing.
The guide’s English was good, I had no difficulty understanding her. I also taught her a couple of things.
The driver could not speak English. But whenever we would pass a herd of animals, he would point at them and say, “Lunch!”
yes, that was part of the motivation for the parents to send thekids to the US, especially in the cold Wintermonths when coal is burned perpetually. Get them out of the smog for a bit.
Can’t say I don’t blame them...lots from China travel in and thru there and vice versa.
Kind of like Virginia now saying they have cases...causes more concern for my state of Pa than if in California. Just keeping an eye on this thing is just wise.
Mongolia is an interesting proud country....it’s come far.
don't know if we can trust China, but we can probably trust what the countries around China are doing and we probably can trust the airline industry if it suddenly drops many flights......
“We’re going to Mongolia.”
“I’m sorry, Sir. Mongolia is closed.”
This will blow over.
“They hate the Chinese and have relied on Russia to keep their independence.”
The Mongolian dislike for China goes back to before Genghis Khan (i.e. it is the reason the Great Wall of China was built). I have always found it fascinating that the least populous country in the world (per square mile) was home to the largest land empire in world history under Genghis Khan and his successors.
