The opening day of President Trumps senate impeachment trial drew a substantial amount if viewers across the three cable news and major networks that broadcast the proceedings.
In total, around 11 million people tuned in to see prosecutors from the House of Representatives and attorneys for the White House argue over exactly how the complicated case should proceed.
Fox News led the way with 2.65 million viewers (from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.), followed by CBS with 1.94 million in the same time frame. MSNBC came second among the cablers with 1.9 million, with CNN bringing up the rear, drawing 1.44 million. ABC drew 1.63 million viewers with its coverage, while NBC drew almost exactly the same figure as CNN.
NBC was the only major network to cover the trial in the evening (5:18 p.m. to 7:40 p.m.), during which time it received a healthy boost in numbers to 2.8 million, topping Fox News which drew 2.63 million, MSNBC at just under 2 million, and CNN at around 1.5 million.

just clicked over to CSPAN and some woman named Garcia playing reruns from the interview of witnesses from the house committee investigation... and the Garcia woman is spinning what the people on the videos ACTUALLY MEANT.
I got a kick out of that too. Delusional is the only explanation.
........ My guess is that when it's time for the Presidents Defense Team to reveal their case .... The Nets will suddenly become disinterested and not cover the hearing. Thus, only one side of the argument will be heard by the public.
.
Despite the numbers in the millions....how many did what I did....5 minutes.
And having the TV on doesn't mean you're watching it. I use mine for white noise.
Same here. Bball & movies for me.
I like the Fox coverage. Side-by-side picture - the commentators chatting while the Senate audio is completely muted. That works out. It also allows the viewers to watch the live, yet muted, Senate action while a Depends ad airs. Either way, Schiffty is silent. Very enjoyable.
They are just tuning out the Rats, when the defense comes on the numbers will go up.
I even got the gym to turn off 6 of the 7 channels that were airing it on their TVs.
I didnt make it political, I just said... isnt one enough?
I got to watch soccer reruns instead.
11 million? The TV Morning shows on ABC/CBS/NBC generate that many view. it was on everywhere and they only drew 11 million for this supposedly hugely important National crisis the Democrats are claiming this is?
To put this number in perspective the first democrat debate drew 10.7 million, so you know whos watching this crap. Schiffty is preaching to the choir. The first Republican debate with Trump drew 24 million. I havent watched one minute but will watch the defense starting Saturday.
likely what media will do, it’s their M O
Maybe someone can answer this?
I have a cable box, (verizon fios) but I never actually turn the box off so that whatever channel I am on when I turn the tv off ... that same channel is still on even if it’s not being watched.
Now, how is That figured into the viewer count?
No. To be honest only about 10,000 people are involved in the ratings system. If you are a Nielsen Family, you get free cable, a special box, but also a lot of work on what you watch every 15 minutes you have to write it down. It is a lot of work that I can’t imagine that anybody would ever want to do.
While you may be immune to the effect, one of the techniques used by TV and Radio is exactly what you are doing.
By having the conscious mind otherwise occupied, the 'white noise' enters the subconscious without any screening.
I heard on the news that the dem trial will continue till Saturday morning and after that, Trump lawyers take over.
Maybe the news people know that this dem trial is a failure to get people's attention and don't want for people to tune in to watch Trump Lawyers?
Color me unimpressed.
.. with CNN bringing up the rear
They forgot C-Span 2, RSBN & Breitbart.
The initial House hearing had 13 million.
Dems have lost 2 million or about 15%.
yesterdays dropped to 8.8 million....HAHAHAHAHA
