Leaked map shows China plans to invade S. Taiwan after taking Kinmen, Penghu

A photo surfaced Sunday (Jan. 19) on Weibo showing People's Liberation Army (PLA) soldiers sitting next to a map of Taiwan that appears to indicate a southerly route for China's invasion of Taiwan, first going through Kinmen and Penghu, before landing troops in southern Taiwan.

After President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) enjoyed a landslide victory in Taiwan's elections on Jan. 11, Communist China has been doubling down on its rhetoric about the tattered "one country, two systems" framework and adhering to the "1992 Consensus" — expressing its opposition to "Taiwan independence" despite the fact that Taiwan has never been a part of Communist China. In a joint statement issued with Myanmar on Saturday (Jan. 18), China reaffirmed the "one-China" principle and categorized "Taiwan as an inalienable part of the People's Republic of China's territory."

In a statement on Sunday (Jan. 19), Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Joanne Ou (歐江安) responded by saying: "The ministry condemns such false statements that diminish the sovereignty of the Republic of China." Ou added: "Taiwan is not part of China, and only the Taiwanese government elected by its people can represent Taiwan in the international arena."

Among the routes displayed on the map, one shows PLA forces first seizing Kinmen, followed by Penghu, before moving on to invade the southern part of Taiwan proper. Another map on the wall appears to show PLA forces breaking from their beachhead into three routes of attack after landing in southern Taiwan.

Taiwan should follow the Swiss (or at least, what the Swiss used to do)

Send army conscripts home with their rifle and 100 rounds of ammunition. Bring them back once a year or so for a day of training, shooting practice, and a BBQ.

Even the most blood-thirsty communist would think twice about invading if there were a couple million armed citizens waiting.

Taiwan will have achieved real independence.

I would imagine they would have to secure Hong Kong
at the same time.

Yep, Taiwan would do well to have an armed Taiwaneeze behind every blade of grass, and specifically many Taiwaneeze behind every mountain and tree (the inland is full of mountains full of trees).

23.78 million people...

Should be able to get five million men out there if need be.

Should give the mainland something to think about...

I would be surprised if the PRC did not have such plans.

Having the plans does not mean an invasion is imminent.

I would think the US military has existing plans for the invasion of both Canada and Mexico.

It’s called being prepared

China has lacked the amphibious capability to do it until now.

With all the problems the Communist leadership faces in bringing HK to heel, I don’t see where taking on Taiwan would benefit China.

As everyone knows, you can start a war but no one knows how it would end.

Yeah, lots of “plans” sit on the shelf. All they represent is a starting point. When they are really considered, they are usually totally rewritten.

I would also not be surprised if this “leak” is just disinformation.

Only if they could invade Taiwan and crush resistance quickly.
Then HK would probably stand no chance.

Crushing Hong Kong first would only stiffen Taiwan.

Nice even bony you have there, China. It’d be a real shame if you had to face a full embargo from the rest of the free world for your adventurism.

They don’t dare with this president.

After the big loss in the presidential election the chairman of the KMT Youth League suggest that KMT should change their policy from One China (=that Taiwan should take over China) to accept the fact that there are two countries i.e. take the same view that DPP has done.

That would be very good.

After more than 60 countries sent messages of congratulations to Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) after her landslide victory in the 2020 election, China cried foul, claiming that their actions violated the "one-China" principle. The country held its 15th presidential election and 10th legislative elections on Saturday (Jan. 11). According to the final result from the Central Election Commission (CEC), Tsai and her running mate William Lai (賴清德) won the presidential race with a record-breaking 8,170,186 votes, or 57.13 percent, while their Kuomintang (KMT) opponents Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) and Simon Chang (張善政) received almost 3 million fewer votes. When asked to respond on that day to the greetings sent by senior officials from countries such as the U.S., the UK, and Japan, Communist China's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Geng Shuang (耿爽) used the diminutive term "Taiwan region" to refer to Taiwan and said the matter was a "sub-national affair in China." He then said the communist regime "firmly oppose those countries’ violation of the 'one-China' principle" by offering the congratulations and "lodged solemn representations." https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/3856265

If they launch,m we have little recourse. Like Crimea-Russia “invasion”.

The point is to discourage their launch.
