Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., announced that his initial plan of a pre-trial dismissal of the impeachment case against President Trump is now unlikely to happen, but he is pushing for the trial to begin and end as quickly as possible.
The Senate trial is set to begin Tuesday. Graham had previously floated the idea that the GOP majority could immediately vote to dismiss the case before hearing any arguments, but now he states that this does not appear to be a possibility given the lack of sufficient Republican support for such action.

With Stupidity? That’s a pure liberal tactic and you’ve exposed yourself as a Democrat. Go back to DU.
There won't be the needed 67 to convict Trump, but there probably will be >51 or so votes to demonstrate a bipartisan majority to convict. Romney will line 5 or more of his rino buddies to back the dems.
“initial plan of a pre-trial dismissal of the impeachment case against President Trump is now unlikely to happen”
The public perception is largely that this is just a partisan stunt by the rats. Because the dismissal is not going to happen that is dead. It will now have full legitimacy because Mitch was too weak to have it dismissed probably because he doesn’t want it dismissed. The rats have achieved their first goal. The second is a bi-partisan majority to convict. They only need 4 turncoats for that. The optic of that will be a big club to use on Trump throughout the campaign. I think they have an even chance of getting that. The third goal is the 67 votes, they won’t get that. Mitch has the position to cut this Sh*t off quick but that won’t happen either. It going to a long miserable circus.
I disagree.
No way you hit that date. That was false advertising, just like they said Mueller could wrap things up quickly.
Lindsey Graham is hoping for reasonableness out of the Dems, huh?
Where has he been ?
In other words, the Republicans wont use any of their power, but hope for their Dem friends to be reasonable?
The GOP wont stand up to the Dems, and the Dems will get their way, and this goes way longer than the RINOs are selling.
Something odd is going on. Graham is telling Dems not to call witnesses??? I don’t recall Pelosi giving the House GOP that option.
That not more of the GOP plan has leaked today leads me to believe the worst. If it was good news we would be hearing about it.
Graham is gaslighting again. He’s trying to move the impeachment process ball down the field until it is too late to change course. It couldn’t be more obvious.
Little stupid daemon’s advocate. The Devil is a hell of a lot smarter than your idiot post. Have another snort, and you’ve been tagged, FRiend.
Too many opportunities for grandstanding before elections. I’m afraid they won’t let this go quickly.
I pray President Trump keeps on with the good work he’s doing. This time it’s for real.
Exactly, “you guys better not do that” wink, nod. This is what blacks call the okee dook.
Sorry sweetums, we ain’t the ones wringing our hands - you obviously stated a “concern”...calling it “playing the Devil’s advocate” is a nice feint though.
Charming. You could cut and paste and get a standing O over at DU.
Dismissing the Articles before hearing opening arguments could well be a violation of the Constitution and, at the least, result in a political goldmine for the D's.
Considering the WH's current legal maneuvers one could speculate a dismissal is the last thing on its mind.
The senate needs 67 votes to convict. Ain’t gonna happen.
I refer you to my post #44
I think all of the dwindling has already happened in the real world.
I haven't heard a single mention of impeachment or trial in about six weeks at work or anywhere else, and there are couple of true believer activist democrats in my office.
Hold the vote let the people see the Rino traitors stab the
Pres. in the back.
On Graham, he never did hold hearings, what a failure as chair. What have you done for us lately Lyndsay? Since
Kavanaugh?
Ok, I get what you’re saying about the optics. But, even with a 51 vote, Trump will still be in office, which is my main concern.
This is all from the inability of the GOP to stand up.
Has a single one used the Whistleblowers name?
The Whistleblower that went to Ukraine with Biden.
They couldve have simply changed the rules, as they did in the House, but they refuse.
They are now hoping that Schumer, Pelosi, Schiff will be reasonable. They refuse to use their Power (and the Dems knew they would) and youll see a long drawn out Circus only because they chose to deal from a position of weakness.
The House stripped the minority of power, and the Senate Leadership wont
take a single speck of power away.
They will let the Dems Damage Trump.
It will go as fast as Mueller went.
The Republicans are Pathetic.
They could call witnesses that make it very distasteful for the Dems, but they simply refuse. Their allegiance is to their Dem friends.
If the ill informed masses think President Trump has the 100% support of the senate, they're ostriches with heads buried.
Literally dozens of republican senator have not voiced support for President Trump.
Prove me wrong.
