My understanding is they have to pass the Senate - what are the chances people in VA? I say prepare for the worst - what will we do? Passive or active resistance?

Talk is cheap guys. How many other states have passed insane gun laws and got away with it?
So 4 or 5 counties in Nova gets to tell the rest of the state what to do? It would be a good time for rest of the state to secede from Nova.
why would Fed.gov allow Federal funds to any state in violation of the US Constitution?
Hence, this is an illegal and FAKE legislative majority and anything passed by it should be thoroughly and completely disregarded as totalitarian tyranny.
What is that phrase on the VA seal?
Northam has done the impossible — in a few short weeks he has surpassed Andrew Cuomo and Gavin Newsom as the nation’s worst governor.
Bravo, Gov. Coonman!
“Social Justice or Bust” (hey, since the fascists are throwing out everything else...)
Amen!
Thanks for the clarification.
Coming everywhere there is a bumpstock ban.
GOVERNMENT BY PROXY
BLOOMBERG IS RUNNING VIRGINIA
This is sickening.
That's how it works in NYS. And why the state has lost also half it's House seats in 60 years. But VA has an advantage that NYS doesn't : Fedzilla stocking the voter rolls with federal employees.
Unless Trump can seriously downsize Fedzilla, or at least move them out of NoVA, my advice is vote with your feet.
But entirely predictable. This is what happens when the local GOP puts up milquetoast and ‘civil’ candidates, or fails to support those candidates who aren’t feeble doormats (remember what the VA GOP did to Cuccinelli), and then wonders why people don’t get out and vote. It’s also what happens when GOP members say that they won’t vote for -insert descriptor here- Republicans, even those who are more conservative than they are, after the primaries are over - and then stay home. We have plenty of those here on FR, even.
The time to express your preferences for which candidate you want to see run as a Republican is during the primaries. Afterwards, hold your nose and vote Republican - or you will get Virginia.
Further, this was easy to see coming anyway. Virginia banned radar detectors in 1962 and has somehow never been able to repeal it. They always justify it as “Well, radar detectors can be used for criminality, so we don’t want to repeal the law, do we?”
Short step from there to guns.
And even if the GOP takes back the government in the next few cycles (something I have little confidence in due to the issues mentioned in my prior post) VA being what it is they may never repeal the gun restrictions.
Thank Reynolds v. Sims. Now the looters get to gerrymander both Houses, whereas before, Virginia could simply have an equal number of Senators (say, 1) for each county and independent city (such as Fairfax), with a 2/3 majority required in each House before they could “countymander.”
When these Bloomberg-Soros-Chicomm horrorshows has such a power to inflict such damage on all local areas of Virginia, wouldn’t a state Senate, such as I described above, be better. In all practicality, such a VA Senate would typically retain a conservative majority.
Actually, I read that conservative counties had an average 35% voter participation rate, while the liberal ones had a 74% rate, for what it’s worth.
Look up Reynolds v. Sims. A Senate distributed with an equal number of Senators per county and independent city (such as fairfax) could have stopped this Bloomberg-Soros-Chicomm crap, but unfortunately, that ruling prevents such an arrangement with its one-man-one-vote nonsense.
I think the decision by the Supremes to involve themselves in state legislative redistricting was a grievous mistake. To wit: the State Senates should be allowed to represent geographical areas and not on population. In ruling THAT unconstitutional, that similarly means that all U.S. Senate seats would be as well, since they do not represent the population of the nation.
Too many legislatures of the Demonrat bent are slaves to geographically small enclaves of urban dysfunction and force the remainders of their state to the whims of their corruption and immorality. That a single county or two can hold sway over an entire state is an abomination. Witness Illinois or Oregon. Remove one county out of dozens, and the entire political dynamic changes.
